Language Requirement At IPS: ◆ Lectures are given either in English or in Japanese ◆ Research is conducted either in English or in Japanese ◆ Master thesis / doctoral thesis must be written either in English or in Japanese ↓↓↓ Students with a good command of either English or Japanese will succeed at IPS.

  8. Preferable Language Ability Requirement(For Applicants’ Reference Only) A. English: ◆ TOEFL: 550pts (PBT), 213 pts (CBT), 80 pts (iBT) ◆ TOEIC: 730 pts ◆ IELTS (Academic): Band 6.5 ◆ CET (大学英語考試): CET-6 B. Japanese 日本語: ◆ JLPT: [Level 1] 250 pts, [Level 2] Pass 日本語能力試験 〔一 級〕250点、〔二 級〕 合格 ◆ EJU (Japanese): 220 pts 日本留学試験(日本語): 220点 These scores are for the applicants’ reference only. Although it is preferable that the applicant’s Japanese or English ability is equivalent to or higher than these scores, we will consider the application from the applicant whose Japanese or English ability is below these scores if his or her academic records of the subjects related to his or her research are excellent.

Study Options at IPS Option 1 : The standard study period at IPS is as follows: ・ Master’s Programme: 2 years ・ Doctoral Programme: 3 years Graduate from his or her home university with a bachelor’s degree Study at the IPS master’s programme for 2 years to obtain a master’s degree from Waseda University Option 2 : Graduate from his or her home university with a master’s degree Study at the IPS doctoral programme for 3 years to obtain a doctoral degree from Waseda University

Option 3:F-Course (Very Tough & Hard Course)(Available Only For Top Students Of Our Partner Univresities) Complete the 1st or the 2nd year of master’s study at the student’s home university Study at the IPS master’s programme for 1.5 years (for excellent students) or 1 year (for super excellent students)(very tough and hard)(maximum 10 credits are allowed to be transferred to IPS)(master’s degree from Waseda University) Go back to the student’s home university and study at a master’s programme for 6 month or 1 year* (* the period depends on the home university) Can obtain 2 degrees: Master’s degree from the student’s home university & Master’s degree from Waseda University

IPS Special Scholarship for International StudentsIPS留学生特別奨学金 This scholarship will be awarded to the first year students who enter IPS by the recommendation of IPS’s overseas partner universities in principal. The granting or non-granting of this scholarship will be announced at the same time of the announcement of the entrance examination results. JPY 600,000 / 1st year at IPS (To be provided in two installments of \300,000 in June and October.)

  24. Waseda University Special Scholarshipfor Young Doctoral Programme Students早稲田大学若手研究者特別奨学金 From April 2009, Waseda University will provide all the doctoral programme students who are under 30 years old with special scholarship . The maximum duration of the scholarship is 3 years. The details will be informed after you pass the IPS’s documentary entrance examination. * If you receive this scholarship, you will not be able to receive the IPS Special Scholarship for International Students at the same time. JPY 600,000 / year

  25. CSC Scholarship(中国政府国家建設高水平大学公派研究生項目) For the academic year 2010, Waseda University IPS will accept students who will be on this scholarship programme into its doctoral programme. IPS will accept the students who wish to become regular students of its doctoral programme. Unfortunately, IPS cannot accept any students who wish to become research students. Please consult with professors/ officers in charge at your home university if you are interested in this programme.

  26. Waseda University Asia Special Scholarship早稲田大学亜細亜特別奨学金 Scholarship: 1. The tuition fee and other fees will be waived by Waseda University. 2. Living allowance: 200,000 Japanese yen per month (*subject to change). 3. Travel expense support (from the student’s home country to Japan): Up to 150,000 Japanese yen (lump-sum). 4. Duration of the scholarship: Master’s degree programme students: Up to two years. Doctoral degree programme students: Up to three years. Conditions: 1. Waseda University will evaluate each student’s academic performance and other performance both inside and outside campus regularly. Should the student’s performance is poor, the scholarship will be cancelled. • The scholarship will be given to each successful student after he or she enters Japan and opens a bank account with a Japanese bank. * We would like to welcome the application for academic 2010 from our partner universities.

  27. Japanese Government (MEXT & METI) Scholarship for Master Students(“Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia” Project) (亜細亜人財資金構想奨学金) • 160,000 Japanese yen per month (*subject to change). • The tuition and other fees will be waived by Waseda University. • Duration of the scholarship: Maximum for two years after the recipients start their study at IPS. • 1. The scholarship awardees must work either in Japan or at a Japanese subsidised company outside Japan straight after graduating from the master’s programme of IPS. • The scholarship awardees must attend the following courses and programmes designed especially for the scholarship awardees by Waseda University and Kitakyushu Science & Research Park Project Consortium that consists of universities including IPS, the local governments and their affiliated organisations. • - Japanese language courses, • - Courses that introduce the Japanese business customs and traditions, • - Advanced educational courses, • - Business internship programmes. • 3. The scholarship awardees must acquire the Japanese ability that is equivalent to or higher than the Level 1 of the Japanese Proficiency Test by the time they graduate from the master’s programme of IPS. Therefore, it is desirable that the scholarship awardees have the Level 2 or higher of the Japanese Proficiency Test at the time they enter IPS.

  28. Scholarships (奨学金) There are number of scholarships that the international students can apply for mainly after entering IPS. They include scholarships offered by governments, private foundations, etc as well as Waseda’s own university scholarships.

  29. Tuition Fee Reduction(授業料減免) For the international students attending IPS at their own expense, there is a tuition assistance system emphasising scholastic achievement that reduces the student’s financial burden by providing them with the tuition reduction by 50%, 40% or 20%.
