  1. Politician of the republic of ireland

  2. Ireland is a parliamentary, representative democratic republic. While the head of state is the popularly elected President of Ireland, this is a largely ceremonial position with real political power being vested in the indirectly elected Taoiseach (prime minister) who is the head of the government.

  3. Government and parliament Executive power is exercised by the government which consists of no more than 15 cabinet ministers, inclusive of the Taoiseach and Tánaiste (deputy prime minister). Legislative power is vested in the Oireachtas, the bicameral national parliament, which consists of Dáil Éireann, Seanad Éireann and the President of Ireland. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The head of the judiciary is the Chief Justice who presides over the Supreme Court.

  4. Political parties • Parties of coalitions ruling -Fine Gael – chadecka, leader Enda Kenny -Páirtí an Lucht Oibre – socialist-democratic, leader Eamon Gilmore • Opposition parties -FiannaFáil (ŻołnierzeLosu) – conservatively-liberal , leader Micheál Martin -Sinn Féin (My Sami) – socialilstand republican, leader Gerry Adams -Parties creating United Left Alliance: PáirtiSóisialach– socialist, leader Joe Higgins People Before Profit Alliance Workers and Unemployed Action Group

  5. Principal Government Officials • President-Michael Higgins Michael Daniel Higgins (Irish: Mícheál D. Ó hUiginn; born 18 April 1941) is the ninth and current President of Ireland, having taken office on 11 November 2011 following victory in the 2011 Irish presidential election.

  6. Taoiseach (Prime Minister)-Enda Kenny Enda Kenny (born 24 April 1951) is an Irish Fine Gael politician, and has been the Taoiseach since 2011. He has led Fine Gael since 2002. He served as Minister for Tourism and Trade from 1994 to 1997. He is also a two-term Vice President of the European People's Party.

  7. Tanaiste (Deputy Prime Minister)-Eamon Gilmore

  8. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade-Eamon Gilmore Eamon Gilmore (born 24 April 1955) is an Irish Labour Party politician and the current Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has been the Leader of the Labour Party since September 2007, and a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dún Laoghaire constituency since 1989, first with the Workers' Party of Ireland, and later with the Democratic Left, until the latter party merged with Labour. He served as a Minister of State at the Department of the Marine from 1994 until 1997 as part of the "Rainbow Coalition" during the Government of the 27th Dáil.

  9. Ambassador of Ireland to the United States-Michael Collins

  10. European union Since joining the European Union in 1973, Ireland (Éire) has transformed itself from a largely agricultural society into a modern, technologically advanced Celtic Tiger economy. In 2002 Ireland changed the Irish Punt to the Euro. In Northern Ireland, the Pound Sterling is used. The currency is the same as that used in Great Britian but the 4 main retail banks each issue their own banknotes. English and Scottish banknotes are perfectly aceptable in Northern Ireland, but you may have difficulty using Northern Irish notes in Britain. Some shops in Northern Ireland will accept Euros. Some will give a good exchange rate but others will not, so check before you pay.

  11. Bank • The Bank of Ireland (Irish: Banc na hÉireann) is a commercial bank operation in Ireland, which is one of the traditional 'Big Four' Irish banks. • Historically the premier banking organisation in Ireland, the Bank occupies a unique position in Irish banking history. At the core of the modern-day group is the old Bank of Ireland, the ancient institution established by Royal Charter in 1783. • In March 2011 during the Irish banking crisis the bank was found to be in need of an external €5.2 billion bailout.

  12. History of parlament In 1800 the Irish parliament passed the Act of Union with Great Britain, and Ireland was an official part of the United Kingdom until 1921. Religious freedom, outlawed in the 18th century, was restored in 1829, but this victory for the Irish Catholic majority was overshadowed by a severe economic depression and the great famine of 1846-48 when the potato crop failed. Millions died, and millions more emigrated, spawning the first mass wave of Irish emigration to the United States. A decade later, in 1858, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB--also known as the Fenians) was founded as a secret society dedicated to armed rebellion against the British. An above-ground political counterpart, the Home Rule Movement, was created in 1874, advocating constitutional change for independence.
