Natural Gas Pipe Sizing. Procedure:. Find the longest run from the gas meter to the farthest appliance. Use linear feet. Add up the Btuh input of all appliances connected to this gas line. Enter the table at the longest run column and don’t get out of it again.

  2. Procedure: Find the longest run from the gas meter to the farthest appliance. Use linear feet. Add up the Btuh input of all appliances connected to this gas line. Enter the table at the longest run column and don’t get out of it again. Size all piping using this column (mains, branches, etc.).

  3. Longest run = 15 + 10 + 3 + 3 + 46 + 2 = 87 Linear Feet 8 +

  4. Total Btuh input of all appliances = 45 + 60 = 290,000 Btuh 100 + 50 + 35 +

  5. Longest run = 87’ Pipe size = 1 ¼” Total input = 290 MBH

  6. 1 ¼” 290 – 150 = 140,000 Btuh

  7. Pipe size = 1” 140 MBH

  8. 1 ¼” 1” 140 – 35 = 105,000 Btuh input

  9. 105 MBH Pipe size = 1”

  10. 1 ¼” 1” 105 – 45 = 60,000 Btuh input

  11. 60 MBH Pipe size = ¾”

  12. ¾” 1 ¼” 1” Boiler and Hot Water Heater branch line = 150,000 Btuh

  13. 150 MBH Pipe size = 1”

  14. 1” ¾” 1 ¼” 1” Hot Water Boiler branch line = 100,000 Btuh

  15. 100 MBH Pipe size = 1”

  16. 1” 1” ¾” 1 ¼” 1” Hot Water Heater branch line = 50,000 Btuh

  17. 50 MBH Pipe size = ¾”

  18. 1” ¾” 1” ¾” 1 ¼” 1” Clothes drier branch line = 35,000 Btuh

  19. 35 MBH Pipe size = ½”
