Establishing Norms in a PLC • Why PLC Teams • Teams bring together complimentary skills and experience that exceed those of any individual. • A team can make decisions, solve more complex problems and do more to enhance creativity and build skills then individuals working alone. • We increase capacity when we work together rather than in isolation.

Establishing Norms in a PLC • Why should we create norms? • Norms can help clarify expectations, promote open dialogue, and serve as a powerful tool for holding members accountable. • Teams improve their ability to grapple with the critical questions when they clarify the norms that will guide their work. • Inattention to establishing norms is one of the major reasons teams fail.

Next Wednesday • Meet in PLC groups to establish Norms • PLC Conference attendees will lead first meeting and will establish meeting location • Walk through Developing Norms exercise • 5 -7 Norms – Keep it simple • Singletons will be lead by Michelle Jordahl • Norms put into writing and turned in to me.
