  1. Preparation of Annex A for WP1 - status • discussion on requirements for Annex A (CD, DJ, SH) in Oxford last Thursday • drafted a table of tasks and effort required, and a corresponding GANTT chart • (see following pages) • arrive at an estimated additional manpower requirement for WP1 of • 3 RA’s full-time (or up to 6 at 50% on WP1) starting in Oct ‘05 Overview of tasks for WP1 – Simulation and Physics Studies subdivide the ‘MIPs to physics’ programme as follows: MIPS to tracks 64.5 staff months (SM) Tracks to vertex information 65.5 SM Physics studies 68.6 SM

  2. MIPs to tracks 1.1 GEANT work: standalone tests of multiple scattering in GEANT4 2 SM track propagation -> realistic hit positions in sensors 4 SM develop new GEANT descriptions of detector config’s 2.5x 6SM/yr  21 SM 1.2 charge generation 3 SM  3 SM 1.3 charge collection: 3D lookup, B-field (ISE-TCAD?) 6SM + 3x 1SM/yr  9 SM 1.4 cluster finding, sparsification 6SM + 4.5SM later  10.5 SM 1.5 track fitting 6 SM  6 SM 1.6 obtain covariance matrix from tracks 3 SM  3 SM 1.7 integration of ‘MIPs to tracks’ package into SGV, test/verification 6SM maintenance 2x 3SM/yr  12 SM

  3. Tracks to vertex information 2.1 update from ZVTOP (ghost track alg., 1 prong vertices) 3 SM + 3.5SM later  6.5 SM 2.2 use of vertex information to improve jet finding 4 SM + 3x 1SM/yr  7 SM 2.3 NN-based flavour tag and vertex charge reconstruction 6 SM + 3x 2SM/yr  12 SM 2.4 extension to neutral B´s, e.g. charge dipole 6 SM + 2x 2SM/yr  10 SM 2.5 recovery algorithms for special topologies: 6 SM + 2x 1SM/yr  8 SM semileptonic decays Kaon, Lambda identification use of neutral energy 2.6 study of polar angle dependence 6 SM + 2x 2SM/yr  10 SM 2.7 alignment issues 12 SM  12 SM

  4. Physics studies for details on processes see current draft of proposal section on physics 3.1 standard model processes  21 SM 3.2 Higgs physics  23 SM 3.3 SUSY processes  24.6 SM GANTT chart • unless otherwise specified, each block in the GANTT chart on the next page • corresponds to 50% of a person´s time • for further comments on the GANTT chart, see p6

  6. GANTT chart - comments • start with concerted effort on ´MIPs to tracks´ package as soon as new RA´s are recruited • in parallel continue with work on ´tracks to vertex info´ (so far main focus of LCFI physics WP) • and update these tools once the ´MIPs to tracks´ package is in place • when all tools are available, focus shifts to work on overall detector design based on studies • of physics channels that are expected to be sensitive to vertex detector performance • 1.4 in 3, 4 of FY 07/08: include new info from CPR3 (and CPR-ISIS3?) – cf Konstantin´s chart • 1.1 in FY 07/08, 08/09: develop GEANT descriptions of various detector designs ( WP6) • 1.2 in FY 07/08: include new results regarding sensor development • 2.4-2.6 in FY 06/07: based on standard SGV (SGV only) • 2.4-2.6 in FY 07/08: based on SGV + ´MIPs to tracks´ package • physics studies: when work on one channel reaches conclusion, start with next • start Higgs June 06: person who has become an expert in track-jet assignment • might like to continue with e.g. ZHH multi-jet events • timing of ramp up (Oct 06): ´manpower release´ from MIPs to tracks
