  2. Goals • Create more ways for community technology centers to network in order to • Share best practices • Engage in collaborative problem solving • Create shared resources • Better understand and meet the needs of our neighborhoods

  3. Two Ideas Hubs • Two or more CTCs in same neighborhood who coordinate efforts Affinity Groups • TLC members with a common interest (e.g., youth and technology)

  4. Hubs and Affinity Groups • TLC will provide tools and templates • Organizing will be done by TLC members

  5. Benefits of Hubs • Shared marketing • Cross-refer users to each others’ centers • Coordinate efforts to meet the technology needs of their neighborhoods.

  6. What do Hubs do? • Communicate regularly to share… • What is new at each lab • What has been challenging at the labs • Trouble shooting and problem solving • Assess unique strengths of each lab, and how resources offered can complement each other

  7. Tools for Hubs • CTC finder to find other CTCs located in your area. • Sample invitation to join a hub. • Sample agenda for a first hub meeting. • Sample flyer for hub shared marketing.

  8. Affinity Groups • Youth and Technology • Employment Services and Technology • Immigrants and Refugees and Technology • Seniors and Technology • Technology and Re-entry

  9. What will Affinity Groups do? • Share resources and best practices • Brainstorm about challenges • Engage in shared problem solving • Create additional resources together

  11. What is the best way to connect? • Facebook • Linked In • YouTube • Wiki • Google Doc • Twitter • Email distribution list • Email list serve • Webpage/blog • Dropbox

Feedback from members • Drawn to Hub concept help to formalize relationships • Franklin Av. and University corridor could be Hubs • Help to know what each other are doing • Would help with continuity of relationships • Affinity groups could help when we are starting new projects • One hub/affinity group could focus on youth work on the West side

  13. Feedback from members • Youth employment and technology • Find others doing similar work • House on TLC website—where hubs and affinity groups are • Funders want coordination and efficiency • Less duplication of services • Hubs could be on the map and simplify a search of the map

Possible Affinity Groups • Youth employment and technology • Technology in the Somali community • Technology in Latino communities • Technology in American Indian communities • Adult employment • Need separate affinity groups focusing on older and younger youth • Need to do outreach to centers who might be interested in hubs and affinity groups • Ask Elise –other cities doing this
