  1. CERN Safety Alarm MonitoringTechnical Specifications CERN Safety Alarm System Supervisory Board 4st meeting P. Ninin & CSAM project team P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  2. Outline • Main points of the IT2694 Technical Specification • Contend of the IT2694/ST ? • Contract & financial strategy • Project and technical choices • User requirements and specification validation • Current status and short-term milestones • CSAM architecture simulation P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  3. IT2694/ST Technical SpecificationDocumentstructure P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  4. IT2694/ST CSAM Technical Specification • For the Fire Brigade (what do they get) • Safety alarm acquisition from all CERN safety zones (buildings, tunnels, etc…). • Local monitoring from each safety zone • Central monitoring, archiving, display, reporting and configuration (redundant) • Non-interruptible 24h/365d system based on redundant communication networks • Specific Human Computer Interfaces and tools for the alarm handling • Real-time monitoring of the correct functioning of all safety sub-systems. • For the Experiments and the other control rooms • A safety alarm gateway to external systems • A flexible system architecture for the integration of the LHC and LHC Experiments future alarms. • A modular acquisition and local monitoring system based on standard industrial equipment P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  5. IT2694/ST CSAM Technical Specification • No common mode of failure • Power supply, Location, server, display, acquisition module, etc. • INB compliant system based on redundant transmission paths. • The Technical Service network • A dedicated “Safety” network (thanks to Pal Anderssen !) • The existing hard-wired links. • Availability requirements • In order to meet the availability requirements of  99.8% set by the AL3 Working Group, a Safety Integrity Level SIL 2 has been fixed. • A Supervision and monitors the availability of all sub-systems and generates performance reports. • Maintainability requirements • integration in the Maintenance Manager System (MP5) P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  6. “State of the art” overview • The required CSAM system architecture and SIL are in line with similar SIL 2 installations. • These include : • The Heathrow Airport(Servelec, Dual redundant system, 50 PLCs, 3 MCHF) • The Channel Tunnel and Paris Airport(DEF, Dual redundant system) • Thames barriers(Silvertec, Dual redundant SCADA and hot stand-by PLCs, 5 MCHF) P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  8. The IT2694/ST CSAM Technical SpecificationMigration & Operation • Migration from old safety alarm monitoring systems to CSAM • Minimum impact on the operation • Motivating the quality and the reliability of the migration. • Safety Alarm “Operation and Maintenance Service” • Complete project lifecycle. • Alarms integration, modification and eradication • Based on “work per alarm” with different service levels. P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  9. IT2694/ST contract and financial strategy • “Total life cost” contract in 3 Work Packages (WP) : • Design and pilot installation (Meyrin Safety Zone), • Deployment & migration • Operation and maintenance P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  10. IT2694/ST Contract and Financial strategy • CSAM Infrastructure estimated cost = 4.5 MCHF over 4 years (3.0 MCHF Technical Sector + 1.5 MCHF LHC) • Operation and Maintenance estimated cost = 350 kCHF/year • The capacity of the system includes the existing CERN-wide safety alarm and provision for the LHC accelerator and the 4 Experiments (as equivalent to LEP) • The integration costs of additional alarms are estimated to: 150 CHF/Alarm. P. Ninin, L. Scibile and the CSAM Team

  11. IT2694/ST User requirement and specification validation • User Requirements • List of editors • AL3WG Members: H. Laeger, A. Chouvelon, A. Gilbert, E. Didier-Noël, U. Jansson, H. Schuhbäck, P.
