  3. General Program Information • Introduction • The following has been assembled for the Student Athletes preparing to become part of the Arapahoe Baseball family and an update for those continuing their athletic endeavors. Contained within this Handbook is general program information as well as resources available to best acclimate to the Arapahoe Baseball Program and is designed for players and parents. • Teams • Warrior Baseball will field 4 teams for spring. Each team will have a predetermined number of roster spots as determined by the coaching staff. Teams will be set based on evaluation criteria set by Coach Muller. With the growing success of the AHS Program and participation, unfortunately roster cuts are inevitable. The 4 teams and eligibility are: • Varsity – eligibility is Freshmen to Senior Class. • Junior Varsity – eligibility is Freshmen to Junior Class • Sophomore – Eligibility is Freshmen to Sophomore Class • Freshmen – Freshmen only • Communication • The Arapahoe Warrior Baseball Program will use a variety of methods of communication, including e-mail, text messaging and posting on the program website: http://www.arapahoebaseball.com/ • You are encouraged to periodically check this site for updated information and dates, including such events as Spirit Day, Spring/Fall Clean-up Day, tryouts, etc.

  4. AHS Baseball Booster Club Purpose • The AHS Booster Club supports the Arapahoe High School Baseball program in several ways. Due to district athletic budgets being almost non-existent, it is imperative that our Booster Club (the parents) support our baseball program. The sole purpose of our Booster Club is to support our players and coaches in the development of our baseball program at Arapahoe High School. The AHS Baseball Booster Club has several key responsibilities that support this purpose. This includes, yet is not limited to: volunteer assistance with field maintenance/upgrades, merchandise sales, concession sales and most importantly…Fund Raising. A scholarship program is also in place for the summer season.

  5. Message from the Coach Muller: • I believe Arapahoe High School has one of the finest high school and summer baseball programs in the country. The coaching staff and the volunteers that work for Arapahoe’s baseball program are the best I have ever seen at a high school. Our ball players are enthusiastic young men and their parents play a huge role in the success that these players have during their high school baseball careers. Playing hard and working hard aren't just meant for the baseball field. We also want all of our • players to work hard in the classroom. Playing baseball at Arapahoe High School is a privilege and maintaining a solid GPA is part of getting to play baseball. As a high school student-athlete, there are many off the field pressures that can arise, but only the players themselves can control what situations they have put themselves in. If baseball is important, players will not do anything to jeopardize their playing status. Arapahoe’s success is attributed to an impressive blend of players, parents, student fans, coaches and school administration involvement that I am proud to be a part of. I look forward to another successful year on and off the field. • Play hard and good things will happen!

  8. Player Policies • Academics. Players must maintain the grades required for athletic eligibility. A report of players receiving two or more F’s is given to Coach Muller on Wednesdays. Those players then have until 3:00 pm on Friday to improve their grades, print out a grade report, and bring it to the Athletic Director, Mr. Sisler. If they fail to improve, they will be ineligible the following Monday through Saturday. All Arapahoe athletes must meet these standards. • No grades, no play. • Substance Abuse. Players are expected to adhere to all school, district, and state policies regarding the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Simply stated, use of these items (ALONG WITH BEING IN A SITUATION WHERE OTHERS ARE ABUSING THESE SUBSTANCES) is prohibited. Violation of this rule is grounds for suspension and missing games during the season. • No drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. • Behavior. At all times, players are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate and professional manner. Regardless of the moment—the umpire’s call, the opponent’s comment, the coach’s decision—players must control their actions and respond with class. Keep in mind, you represent Arapahoe High School, including it’s students, teachers and parents as well as our community. • Practice/Game Protocol. Individual team coaches will discuss with their teams, but athletes should prepare for practices as they do for a game. “Warm-ups” are to happen before practice, not at practice. Be early (on time is late!), assist with the equipment before and after practice. Be a team player, do your part.

  9. Parent Policies • The following guidelines have been created to help parents understand their roles within the Arapahoe Baseball Program. Just like life, parents wear many hats throughout the season—spectator, volunteer, cheerleader, counselor, and many more. No matter the role, our success as a program depends on the support, commitment, and professionalism of every individual. • Communication. Parents areencouraged to communicate with the coaching staff. We welcome questions regarding an athlete’s progress, limits, playing time, attitude, etc….However, any discussion regarding playing time must first be between the player and coach. Any interaction must be done in a professional and private manner. • Involvement. Parents are expected to become involved in the program. Whether it is as a team parent, team photographer, or concessions volunteer, your commitment aids in the success and development of your player and the entire Arapahoe Baseball Program. Fundraising will be covered later in this Handbook. • Behavior. At all times, parents are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate and supportive manner, regardless of the moment. We are asking the players to be respectful, it only stands to reason that Parents be held to the same standard. This includes heckling the umpire’s call or verbalizing your disagreement with a coach’s decision. Regardless of what you believe, Umpires do not decide the outcome of the game…Ask yourself, “how many times has my umpire abuse resulted in an umpire changing his call?” Right! It’s difficult enough 9 players against 9. As the players do, you represent Arapahoe High School and it’s surrounding community.

  10. AHSBaseball Game Day Services • Music • The players like to have walk up music, Pitching Warm up Music and between inning music. There is a great program called Wave Pad Sound Editor that will let you edit songs and save them in iTunes format • National Anthem: • Find and bring a few you like (Can be vocal or instrumental) • Remind coaches that players need to stand along the 3rd base line and act respectful (Should not have to remind them of this for long, but the players sometimes forget) • Walk Up Music: • Players need to let you know what song they want, but you have the right and responsibility to request a new song if inappropriate • Keep to 30 secs or less • Pay attention to the batter and fade music as they step into the box • No bad language/content, not even clean versions. • Pitching Warm Up Music • Players need to let you know what song they want, but you have the right and responsibility to request a new song if inappropriate • Played when the pitcher first is warming up in the first inning. If a new pitcher is brought in then play their song when they are warming up. • Pay attention to the umpire and when is signals play fade music out • No bad language/content • In-between Innings Music: • Benefits of being in charge of music is your get to choose what music is played • Try and keep it upbeat and somewhat current for the boys • Pay attention to the volume so the fans are deaf from the music • Pay attention to the umpire and when he signals play fade music out • No bad language/content

  11. AHS Baseball Game Day Services • Announcer Duties • This is not a hard job but there are a few things to remember: • Get lineup from both teams • Get clarification on pronunciation of names (some are pretty tough) • Announce lineup before game (Both home and away) • Announce batter each time they come up • Announce pitching changes • Make sure you turn the microphone off between announcement as anything said in the booth can be heard over it • Please refrain from play by play and extra comments

  13. Team Administrators Daily AnnouncementsAs Administrator you are asked to write announcements covering your team’s upcoming games and/or wins. The text you write will be read over the intercom at school and emailed out to those who are registered to receive them daily. Write exactly what you want the announcement to read and email it early morning to the addresses below. Be sure to get it in early to make that day’s announcements. The email addresses are:plewis@lps.k12.co.uslayres@lps.k12.co.usHere is an example:It is baseball season once again and there are games nearly everyday starting around 4pm. Stop by and cheer on your players and have a snack at the concession stand. Hot dogs and hamburgers grilled fresh at every home game. Today the sophomore team takes on Regis. Don't miss it!ScoresAfter each game the Team Administrator will text scores to John Williams at 303.947.7560. He will post the scores on the AHS site.FRESHMAN ONLYFreshman team will ride the bus for each weekday away game. Each player must return on the bus to AHS after the game. A bus will not be provided for Saturday away games. The bus for weekday away games will leave at 2:45 from the south circle drive/ bus loop. 13

  14. Team FeedsHere is your chance to get creative! This should be a fun part of the Spring baseball season for players and parents. Your tone in addressing this will matter!Your goal should be that each week, your team has a feed of one kind or another. It does not need to be a 4-course sit down meal with tablecloths. To set this up, use Signupgenius. Divide the number of players on your team by the number of weeks in a season. This will give you the number of feeds you need to have. From there, set up the sign up in weeks, with two to three families per week. They will sign up for a week and choose amongst themselves what to do and when. Here are some ideas:Sack lunches or Subway on the bus for an away game (Freshman only). For all other teams, perhaps a sack lunch to be eaten at the field before the game? Not sure we want to encourage these young men to be eating and driving at the same time!Pizza after practice. Players can sit in the bleachers or in the amphitheater to watch a game.A typical meal, either at the field or someone’s home. Be sure to ask the coach for permission to do the feed at a home. Ideas may include Italian, tacos, burgers, wings.Burgers at the Shack after a practice, but during a game. They can root the Warriors on to victory while they eat.5’ long subsTeam goes to a local restaurant after game or practice and the group that is hosting pays the bill. Here is the text from the signup I used last year:   Parents,We are asked by the baseball program to provide a team meal for the boys once per week.  I have divided the season into seven weeks, beginning on Sundays, with the week we are in currently being week one.  Each week there are 2 or 3 slots, a total of 17(one per family).  Please pick a week that you want to work with others to organize a Team Feed.  It will be that group's responsiblitly to set the date and provide the meal.  They can be after a practice, after a game, or boarding the bus for an away game.  Per the Coach Trotter, Team Feeds may not be in a private home.  Some ideas:  at the field after a practice, at the ampitheater during a varsity game(after practice), perhaps in a classroom after a game (Coach Trotter will need to get that approved), at a restaurant nearby to which the boys can walk. If you need to talk through this, please give me a call.Step 1:  Pick a week that is good for you to work with others to provide a meal and sign up.  There are 17 families and 17 slots.  Everyone will need to do this once.Step 2:  Work with the other families in your week to pick a date and make a planStep 3:  Communicate your plan to me and I will make sure all the parents know.Have fun!  Be creative!  The boys will love anything you do and it is an excellent way for the team to come together.Feel free to email me if you have any questions. 14

  15. Concession Checklist 15

  16. CONCESSION PRE-ORDER INSTRUCTIONSIn an effort to serve baseball players in a timely manner and reduce waste, we will be pre-grilling meat only as indicated on the Pre-order forms. In addition to what players pre-order, you may grill up to six extra of each item before the end of the first game. After the second game begins, please grill meat by order only. Between games please serve players first and fans second. We experimented with this over the summer and had great success! Fans are willing to wait while more meat is grilled so that players can get what they need and our waste dropped dramatically.Be sure to pay close attention to the progression of the game to be ready for the players. Remember, there is a 10-run rule after 4 innings and a 2-hour game limit. Watching the innings alone may leave you unprepared for the rush. Thank you for your continued support of Arapahoe Baseball! We sincerely appreciate ALL of your help.Dawn Burke and Anne Marie Phelan 16
