PIETER AERTSEN Amsterdã, c. 1508 - 1575 Pieter Aertsen foi um pintor holandês que atuou em sua terra natal, e em Antuérpia, sendo chamado de "LongPeter" (Pedro Comprido) por causa de sua altura. Quando jovem, foi aluno de Allaert Claesz, distinguindo-se por pinturas de cenas domésticas, em que reproduzia mobiliário, utensílios de cozinha e por aí em diante, com maravilhosa fidelidade. Mais tarde, Aertsen começou a apresentar cenas históricas, sendo mais conhecido por pinturas que, ao primeiro olhar, parecem exemplos diretos desse estilo, mas que, de fato, incorporam  cenas religiosas. (Butcher's Stall with the Flight into Egypt, University of Uppsala, 1551).Uma amostra excelente do seu estilo é o quadro da Crucifixion. Aertsen foi membro da Academia de São Lucas, em Antuérpia. Nos livros oficiais da Academia seu nome é citado como "Langhe Peter, schilder" (o pintor Pedro Comprido). Vários dos seus melhores trabalhos, incluindo retábulos em várias igrejas, foram destruídos nas guerras religiosas holandesas. Aertsen foi o patriarca de uma longa dinastia de pintores, dos quais o mais talentoso foi seu sobrinho e aluno Joachim Beuckelaer.
