  14. R&D is central to achieving the health aims of the SDGs Analysis shows that nearly half of the 19 SDG targets representing the best value-for-money are health targets (8) Many health targets (e.g. reducing TB globally by 90%) cannot not be achieved without R&D of new health technologies

  15. … but R&D is at risk of being completely ignored in the SDGs • R&D is almost entirely absent from the SDGs and the proposed SDG indicators • R&D for ‘health needs of DCs’ is mentioned in one of the 169 targets (Target 3.b), but is confused with access • Essentially absent from indicator proposals (including for the ‘global health R&D’ target above)
