Original Idaho Goals • Increase volunteerism among mature adults in Idaho. • Create greater employment opportunities by connecting employers and mature adults. • Encourage employers in Idaho to adopt best employment practices to empower the aging workforce. • Increase statewide enrollment of mature adults in post-secondary education courses and lifelong learning opportunities. Key AccomplishmentsGoal #1Increase Volunteerism • Developed volunteer management training—SERVE Idaho. • Trained SCSEP participants to demonstrate and assist mature workers in the use of ICIS in Labor offices.—IDOL & ICOA. • Currently creating a link on the ICIS system for Mature Workers—IDOL. • Planned and conducted a Volunteer Fair—IDOL, SERVE Idaho & AARP. Key AccomplishmentGoal #2Connect Mature Workers and Employers • Mature Worker Job Fair collaborative event conducted October 4, 2008. • Seven workshops were conducted to specifically aid mature workers and employers wishing to hire mature workers. • 1,200 job seekers, 25 employers, and 10 service providers attended. Key Accomplishment -- Goal #3Encourage Idaho Employers to Adopt Best Employment Practices. • Flexible work schedules. • Part-Time Jobs. • Job Sharing. • Part-Year Work. • Retirement policies that encourage retirees to continue working. • Policies that enhance personal health and wellness. Return-to-Work Legislation. Lifelong Learning Accounts. Defined benefit retirement plans. Idaho State Workforce Council 11/5/09

Goal #4 Increase statewide enrollment of mature adults in post-secondary education courses and lifelong learning opportunities. • Survey completed by Tammy Perkins of the Governor’s Office regarding educational incentives for older individuals within Idaho post-secondary institutions. • Collected information about lifelong learning opportunities and educational programs to be listed on ADRC website. • Assessed the career, training, and educational interests of mature--Mature Worker Job Fair Survey.   13. Recession Goal #5 In view of the economic downturn, leverage and coordinate ARRA (Recovery Act) funds for Idaho workers. Idaho State Workforce Council 11/5/09

  15. VISTA Cooperative effort with IDOL, ICOA and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Attended Supervisor Orientation Training in Texas. Vista positions approved and recruited to assist on regional and local level to develop systems that enhance services to unemployed Idahoans. Idaho State Workforce Council 11/5/09

  16. Vista Position Descriptions Boise-Apprenticeship Development including Green Jobs. ICOA-Mature Worker Services Design and Development. Meridian-Job Club Creation for Selected Industries.   17. Sustainability • The formal end to the Policy Academy occurs on December 31, 2009. • Request the Idaho NGA Policy Academy to continue in an advisory capacity. • Will continue to implement goals and strategies at the regional and state level via the Vista members.
