Certification Prerequisites and Process • 5+ years of experience in software development, testing, business analysis, product or project management • Experience in Scrum • Attend the 2-day Leading SAFe course and pass the SA exam Detailed Course Outline SAFe Agilist is a course for Leaders and Managers of an Organization who want to understand the aspects of Framework. The course consists of 8 Chapters with the below outlined learning objectives. There is also a quick description, which provides an overview of learning outcomes. • Chapter 1: Introducing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) o 1.1 Recognize the problem to be solved o 1.2 Explain the Five Core Competencies of the Lean Enterprise o 1.3 Describe the SAFe Implementation Roadmap The participants will take a quick look on the problems they are facing in the ever changing product landscape, which helps set the tone for the entire course. In this chapter, the participant will learn about 5 core competencies and 4 configurations of SAFe along with a quick history on evolution of SAFe over the years. They will also get a quick overview on SAFe implementation roadmap, which will be explained in detail in the last chapter. • Chapter 2: Becoming a Lean-Agile Leader o 2.1 Become a Lean-thinking manager-teacher o 2.2 Embrace the Lean Mindset o 2.3 Support the Agile Manifesto o 2.4 Apply the SAFe Principles The participants will understand the need of a manager-teacher and their key attribute. They will also go through House of Lean and Agile Manifesto for software development, which sets the common understanding around Lean and Agile Ways of Working. The course connects these to the 9 SAFe Principles, which are discussed in detail through a combination of examples, stories, videos and activities. • Chapter 3: Establishing Team and Technical Agility o 3.1 Organize around value o 3.2 Form cross-functional Agile Teams o 3.3 Organize Agile Release Trains (ARTs) around the flow of value o 3.4 Prepare for PI Planning The participants will start using the knowledge of Values and Principles through the practices from this chapter onwards. The chapter helps them understand the value flow at Team and Program level, and then takes them through the roles at each level. • Chapter 4: Experiencing Program Increment (PI) Planning o 4.1 Create and review draft PI plans o 4.2 Finalize plans and establish business value o 4.3 Review final plans and commit to a set of PI Objectives Participants experience the power of PI planning through a simulated Program Backlog. They create their Team and Program board and commit to a set of PI Objectives. They also gain an understanding of PI planning event with a retrospective for the simulation. • Chapter 5: Releasing on Demand with DevOps o 5.1 Release value on demand with DevOps o 5.2 Continuously explore customer needs o 5.3 Continuously integrate, deploy and Release on Demand o 5.4 Relentlessly improve results In this chapter, the participants will gain an insight to execute the plan. They will go through the cycles of Exploration, Integrate, Deploy and Release cycles and the suggested practices. They will also understand SAFe's CALMR approach of DevOps. At the end, Innovation & Planning (IP) iteration is explained and participants gain a deeper understanding of Inspect & Adapt (I&A) event. • Chapter 6: Building Business Solutions and Lean Systems o 6.1 Build large solutions The participants will gain knowledge about the different aspects to take care of while building a Large Solution. • Chapter 7: Implementing Lean Portfolio Management o 7.1 Define a SAFe Portfolio o 7.2 Connect the portfolio to enterprise strategy o 7.3 Maintain the portfolio vision o 7.4 Establish portfolio flow o 7.5 Fund Value Streams o 7.6 Support Agile Portfolio Operations o 7.7 Apply Lean governance The participants will go through the Lean Governance, Portfolio Operation and Strategy & Investment Funding in this chapter. These are discussed by way of creating a Portfolio Canvas for the current Portfolio, doing a SWOT analysis, going through Investment Horizons and coming up with Epics for the future state. They will also gain insights around Funding Value Streams instead of Projects, Establishing the flow for new initiatives and Enterprise Strategy. • Chapter 8: Leading the transformation o 8.1 Lead your SAFe transformation The participants will go through John Kotter's eight step process for transformation and this will be connected to SAFe Transformation Roadmap.
