  1. Students Find Their Roots While Working On The Moolgyan Project Agriculture and nutrition are crucial for sustaining human life and promoting overall health. Agriculture provides food, fiber, and other essential resources, while proper nutrition is necessary for growth, development, and disease prevention. A well-functioning agricultural sector can help ensure food security and improve access to nutritious foods, thereby promoting public health and well-being. Keeping this in mind, the students and alumni at VidyaGyan worked on a project focused on the "agriculture-nutrition disconnect." Many integral factors surround the youth, directly and indirectly – Nutrition and Health; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Education and Knowledge; Community and sustainability; and Agriculture and Technology. These elements were combined for the student project, “Moolgyan”. The ‘Moolgyan" project was carried out to help build a "nutrition knowledge and innovations" network in India with the youth at the center. The students explored the concepts of a better lifestyle, covering themes like Nutrition, Health, Agriculture, and Education. VidyaGyan is an initiative of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which was founded as a leadership academy for deserving and marginalized students from rural India with the aim of bridging the urban-rural divide. Its objective is to ensure education in rural areas to develop a pool of leaders who can serve as agents of change for their families, communities, nation, and society as a whole. The Moolgyan project was carried out in collaboration with the Biology Department of Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. The students visited the soil testing lab, the genetics lab, and the plant biology

  2. department. They participated in small experiments and workshops alongside undergraduate and PhD students, which allowed them to gain hands-on experience in the field of science. In collaboration with Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence's School of Natural Sciences, the months of September and October of 2022 were all about program development. This included groundwork at Jaivik Farms and formalizing biochemistry, nutrition, and cooking labs. The following months of November and December were dedicated to training for pilot implementation. Finally, January to February of 2023 focused on pilot implementation for the students. This involved participation at the farmers market and focusing on the final phase of the business cycle of food, which included selling to Shiv Nadar School and Azadpur Mandi. Such initiatives can considerably evolve the learning curve of students. The initiatives and programs of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, a charitable foundation, continue to offer a rich amalgamation of academia and co-curricular activities for long-term impact on the students.
