1. Preparation of Bone Marrow Trolley Department of Internal Medicine, PMHC The following list of equipment is needed for performing a bone marrow aspiration and trephine. All items listed should be available on the trolley before starting the procedure. 1.Sharps bin – 1 small 2.Alcohol swabs- 10 3.Betadine solution – 1 bottle 4.Hibiscrub – 1 bottle 5.Gauze swabs – 3 packets 6.Linen saver - 2 7.Non sterile gloves – 1 box 8.Disposable gowns / aprons – 5 9.Sterile gloves – size for operator 10.Lignocaine 1% - 2 x 10mL bottle 11.Syringes – 4x 10mL 4x 20mL 12.Needles – 4 x green, 4 x black 13.Spinal needle – 2 x black 14.Scalpel blade – 1 x 25 kGy 15.Purple blood bottle – 5 16.Blood culture bottle – various 17.Elastoplast tape – 1 role 18.Sodium bicarbonate solution 8.4% - 1 50mL vial 19.Sodium heparin 1000iu / mL – 2 vials 20.Glass slides – 1 box 21.Sterile procedure pack – 1 22.Bone marrow trephine and aspiration needle – 2 23.Pathology forms – FBC form, histology form, bone marrow aspiration form, microbiology form.
