  1. PASCOR Group Industry Adviser: Craig Smit Product Engineer Faculty Adviser: Chien Wern, Ph.D. Team Members: Jeremie Bilisari Steve Greene Joe Hartley Robby Hoff Matt Smith

  2. Overview • Background • Mission Statement • Project Objectives • Project Design Specifications • Final Design Selection • Performance Evaluation • What’s Left • Conclusion

  3. Background • PASCOR – Pacific Air Switch Corporation

  4. Background • Brazing Process

  5. Background • Current Strip Forming System

  6. Mission Statement • The design team will develop a fully automated device to cut and form strips of silver. The device is required to produce strips quickly and accurately while being robust and portable.

  7. 2”, 3”, 5” & 6.5” 1/4” Tolerance ( +/- 1/16” ) R=1/4” Project Objectives • Design and Build a Functional Prototype to Replace Current System. • Maintain Tolerances • Multiple Lengths • Quick

  8. Project Design Specifications • High Priority Criteria -Safety: Emergency Switch & Safety Guards - Performance: Adjustability, Tolerance & Parts/sec. • Medium Priority Criteria -Durable - Use of Replaceable Parts -Cost of Production < $5,000 • Low Priority Criteria -Curvature of Strips

  9. Final Design Selection

  10. Performance Evaluation • Targets Met: - Length Tolerance: 2” pieces within 1/32” (Goal was 1/16”) - Radius Curvature: 1/4” radius achieved - Length Curvature: Achieved - Multiple Lengths: Programs for all required lengths - Weight ~ 45 lbf (Goal was < 50 lbf) - Cost ~ $2500 (Budget Was $5000) • Targets Not Met: - Parts Per Time: 2” piece @ 1.8 sec.  6.5” piece @ 5 sec.

  11. What’s Left • Install Emergency Stop Switch • Install Photoelectric Sensor • Adjust Final Three Lengths to Tolerance • Encase Machine • Consider Ventilation of Electrical Parts • Incorporate High Speed Card

  12. Conclusion

  13. Special Thanks • Mike Flaman @ PCC for Machining Help • Pacific Machinery & Tool Steel for material donations • Shawn Dunigan @ ABC Electric for PLC programming assistance
