  1. g6pd Official Full Name glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase Background This gene encodes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. This protein is a cytosolic enzyme encoded by a housekeeping X-linked gene whose main function is to produce NADPH, a key electron donor in the defense against oxidizing agents and in reductive biosynthetic reactions. G6PD is remarkable for its genetic diversity. Many variants of G6PD, mostly produced from missense mutations, have been described with wide ranging levels of enzyme activity and associated clinical symptoms. G6PD deficiency may cause neonatal jaundice, acute hemolysis, or severe chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] Synonyms G6PD; glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase; G6PD1; glucose-6-phosphate 1-dehydrogenase; Involved Pathway G6PD involved in several pathways and played different roles in them. We selected most pathways G6PD participated on our site, such as Pentose phosphate pathway, Glutathione metabolism, Metabolic pathways, which may be useful for your reference. Also, other proteins which involved in the same pathway with G6PD were listed below. Creative BioMart supplied nearly all the proteins listed, you can search them on our site. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by G6PD itself. We selected most functions G6PD had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with G6PD. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
