  1. Effect of Sun Heat On Human Body And Treatment Hot summer days are a fun reprieve from the brutal winter. Unfortunately, more time outdoors often results in more visits to our Urgent Care. Over the years I’ve gotten the same questions and concerns regarding the most prevalent summer-related medical problems. Therefore, I want to share with you the most common heat-related illnesses that bring patients like you to see me. The crazy part is, that all these issues can be prevented. Heat Rashes: Heat rashes aren’t just for babies. A heat rash is basically a clogged sweat duct. Sweat gets trapped beneath the skin, causing a rash. In infants, it’s most commonly caused by immature sweat ducts. For adults the most common causes are,

  2. Hot humid weather. Physical activity. Prolonged bed rest. The three S’s to prevent summer heat rashes, Shade - Stay in the shade as much as possible Sleep - Keep your bedroom cool and avoid sleeping with heavy blankets. Style - Dress in loose-fitted light-colored cotton clothing. Cooling your skin will generally help your rash go away on its own. However, if you experience pain redness, or swelling around the area, come visit. My team will take care of you. Sun Burn: When the weather’s nice you spend hours out in the sun. Sun exposure comes along with sunburns and suntans. Your skin will tan in order to block the dangerous UV (ultraviolet) rays from penetrating your skin, preventing you from burning. However, it doesn’t offer enough protection. Don’t forget to use sunscreen on cloudy days. Let’s discuss prevention: The sun is strongest between the hours of 10 and 4. Avoid tanning. Keep your body properly covered like using a rashguard when swimming. Don’t skimp on sunscreen. Apply frequently and use an SPF of 30 or higher. Reapply sunscreen every two hours when swimming or working up a sweat. Use sunglasses. Too much UV light can cause damage to your retina, lens, or cornea. Increased sun exposure causes skin damage such as premature skin aging as well as some cancers. Sunburns are painful. You must come to see my team of Urgent Care in Queens, if you have a sunburn that is blistering, swelling, shows signs of infection (hot and pussy), or you run a fever.

  3. Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke: When you overwork you overheat. When your body overheats it’s exhausting...seriously. Heat exhaustion is a combination of heat, humidity, and physical activity. What does Heat Exhaustion look like? With Heat Exhaustion, there’s sweating with normal mental status. You may experience one or more of the following symptoms. Heavy sweating, dizziness, muscle cramps, nausea, headache, and fatigue. If you experience any of these symptoms it’s imperative to cool your body temperature. Drink lots of water or any sports drink. Find a cool place. Stop all physical activity. In order to keep your core temperature regulated, your body cools itself by sweating. When you overexert yourself on hot humid days, it leads to heat exhaustion. Ignoring the aforementioned symptoms can cause a Heat Stroke — which is dangerous. A Heat Stroke is when the sweating stops and there’s an altered mental status. Heatstroke requires immediate medical attention. If not treated immediately it can cause damage to your brain and other vital organs. Recognize the Signs of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke.
