One festival is known by several names: Happy Makar Sankranti Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated in various parts of India and Nepal, marking the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara). Di?erent names for the festival are used in di?erent parts of the nation.It is known as Pongal in southern India and goes by di?erent names in other parts of the country, like Maghi, Uttarayan, Lohri, and so on. In spite of the various names,the essence of the festival remains the same — a time to celebrate the harvest season, express gratitude, and enjoy festivities with family and friends. Uttar Pradesh In Uttar Pradesh, Makar Sankranti is known as "khichdi Sankranti." A special dish called "khichdi" is made just for this festival and served to the Lord Sun during adoration. Sesame- seed and jaggery laddoos are the festival's star attraction. Flying kites is an enjoyable custom. Most of the time, the entire family can be seen celebrating Makar Sankranti, eating, playing games, and flying kites on their terrace. The most prominent rite on this day is a holy bath at Prayag in Allahabad. On this day, thousands of devotees take a dip in Sangam, the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers' confluence. Sangamdevotees are believed to be able to find redemption and become sinless by taking a bath in Sangam. Thus, to rent a car and go swimming in Sangam. Gujarat In Gujarat, Makar Sankranti is referred to as "Uttarayana." Every year on January 14, Gujarat celebrates the Kite Festival, although colorful kites can be seen in the sky up to two months in advance.
