It's observed every year in the lunar month of Magha which contrasts with the month of January according to the Gregorian calendar and it is a day that the people of India and Nepal celebrate their harvest. Makar Sankranti is just one of the important Hindu festivals of India, and is celebrated with a great deal of fervor within our nation. As Such, the festival is designed to indicate the very first day once the sunlight is transiting in the Capricorn, also called Makara.
