    2. A friend of mine had lost a ton of weight with the Dukan diet. I think shed lost 55 pounds in 110 days, or something quite extraordinary. I thought, well, if she can do it, so can I. I started off full of optimism and enthusiasm, as one does only this time, I thought Id blog about it. To keep myself honest was my intention, and accountable. Yet also to remember some of the turmoil I went through on this diet. I suppose the idea was if I wrote it all down, then if I came off the diet and/or was successful, then I would be able towell, I would remember, and it would be a help. One day, I wrote a blog post all about how if you are built like Beyonc then theres no point trying to look like Uma Thurman. I used one of my most favorite tips about social media, which is to always stand in front of other peoples traffic rather than create your own, whenever you can. (i.s. Leveraging money the celebrity has already spent to get themselves top of mind, and/or using a current news topic as a point of reference and then applying it all to your specific topic.) I had pictures of J-Lo and Beyonc because at the time they were in the news. I think Beyonc had just had the baby and J-Lo, well J-Lo seems to be in the news every day!

    3. I included a picture of those two, and to be honest, it was somebody elses article. I simply wrote an intro talking about how much I loved the article. (with a proper link to the original) Then I reprinted the whole bottom of the article and put with no permission whatsoever - heres the rest of this excellent article! I linked up to it and thought, good enough. I left it at that. Then it occurred to me this might be an interesting post for Pinterest; why not put it up there and see what happens. Its not long before an email arrives from Pinterest with all these re-pins. Good heavens! Well, I guess that hit a nerve then. That was a good one, wasnt it? Clever old me! I wondered what that might mean in terms of my traffic. Let me go and have a look at Google Analytics. How extraordinary! 100 clicks on a private little blog which I was, at the time, not writing for anybody other than me. At some point I might try and monetize that blog, but it is a place just for me, to store everything to do with the Dukan diet and my own journey on it. (By which Ive actually managed to lose 60 pounds, Id just like to mention. Done for now. Phew!)

    4. [In my live webinars on Pinterest, people have asked - was that clicks on your blog or your pin board, or is it the same thing? No, this was clicks on my blog coming to me, in-bound, from Pinterest. Pinterest sent me 100 new people that day to my blog. That is new, brand new people who never knew me before. Its sure put the little Dukan diet diary blog, http://mydukandiary.com on the map!] Ah, so thats how Pinterest is a big deal. It can do extraordinary things for you in terms of traffic; and it has. I noticed that the three or four blogs I have that I am promoting on Pinterest or that I am sharing on Pinterest and making available to Pinterest readers are getting significantly more traffic. In fact, 32% of my total traffic is coming from Pinterest. ( as of June 2012) Pinterest is now ranked the #3 social network. They say they get more traffic than LinkedIn, Google+, and YouTubecombined. Not surprised about the LinkedIn thing or the Google+ thing, are you? But if it is #3, then I think we should take it seriously.

    5. At its most basic, Pinterest is a virtual pin-Board. Its a visual collection. Its a dreamscape for all the people that used to do those vision boards back in the 80s, before the secret came along and we were all listening to Tony Robbins and those kinds of people. Thats Pinterest. And finally the web has caught up to Tony Robbins. Its a dreamscape and a community (and its important to remember this word community because therefore there are certain rules of politeness that will apply). Its like fantasy football for women, although I didnt come up with that one - I wish I had because its so good. These visual collections are sorted the word used is curated around a single idea or a keyword phrase. The narrower and more specific the better.
