  1. Fun and Easy Dog Tricks to Teach Your One-Year-Old Pet

  2. Teaching your dog tricks is one of the most fun part of dog ownership. When teaching a one-year-old dog tricks, it is important that you consider the health of your dog, along with their activity level and prior training, if there are any. Below are some tips along with a couple of tricks to get started.

  3. But before you start teaching your dog any tricks, make sure that your dog is in good health. Many tricks require body movements and positions that are not completely natural to them. Do not ask your dog to do something that is uncomfortable or appears to hurt. Teaching your dog tricks should be fun. Also, because most one-year-olds are still growing, do not ask your dog to do tricks that require excessive pulling, twisting or jumping. Save these tricks later when your dog is older and has finished growing.

  4. Dog Tricks: Shake Ask your dog to sit and hold a treat in your hand near the ground. When your dog paws as your hand, say “Yes!” and give him the treat. Once he is already consistently pawing at your hand, start to raise your hand slightly with every repetition, saying “Yes!” and handing him a treat every time performs. When your hand is of the same height as his shoulder, stand straight, offer your open hand, and say “Shake!” When he paws at your hand, say “Yes!” and drop a handful of treats. Continue practicing, only giving treats for quick and correct responses.

  5. Dog Tricks: Nose Touches Hold your open hand near your dog. When he sniffs your hand, say “Yes!” and hand him a treat from the other hand. Repeat until he consistently is approaching your hand when presented. Next, say “Touch!” and present your open hand. When he touches his nose to your hand, say “Yes!” and give him a treat from the other hand. Practice until your dog is touching his nose to your hand on cue. Now, have a friend hold out his hand and repeat the steps above. Touching his nose to someone else’s hand is called “Say hi!” and is a great way to introduce someone new to your dog.

  6. The number of tricks that you can teach your one-year-old dog is only limited by your dog’s health and your imagination. You should find so many books or online sources available for you to get your pet to learn dog tricks.
