  1. Tips with regard to Underfloor Heating In colder climates home and apartment owners do their best to ensure steady flow of heat throughout the areas where they spend most of their time by, for example, having underfloor heating installed. Of course this applies to offices and other commercial buildings as well. There are, however, some important Do’s and Don’ts of installing underfloorheating to be considered. The “Do’s”: Do your homework in terms of who the best installers are. You want to be convinced that: they offer great knowledge and experience in their industry; they understand your exact requirements and they are known not to over-charge for their materials and services. Ask around and then deal with the one that best suits your requirements. Ask the installers some pertinent questions, one of which should be what heat source is best to use for your home or property. For example: how will the water that carries the heat through be distributed? As part of the Do’s and Don’ts of installing underfloor heating owners want to know whether their current boiler is good enough and whether they need a different – maybe a new – one. Most floor spaces are, fortunately, never too big and therefore a good boiler will suffice in this regard to ensure the water is pumped around to warm up your floor. Most people these days prefer a system that allows them room temperature control, and most installers will also advise you to use this option since it allows you to set the temperature in the areas where you want less or more heat at a time. As one of the Do’s and Don’ts of installing

  2. underfloor heating this feature is normally asked for right at the start, before the installation commences. Ask for a wireless control. It makes it so much easier to apply. Your installer should know that it is always best to keep enough space – 50mm preferably – between different runs of heating cable and to always ensure cables do not touch one another, or even worse, cross over. Failing to ensure this precaution may lead to costly repairs later on. Also ensure that all heating cables are properly embedded within layers of flexible tile adhesives to prevent system failure and fire hazards. These are only a few of the Do’s of Do’s and Don’ts of installing underfloor heating. Some “Don’ts” Never set the water temperature supply to below the dew point. Installers all should know this since, if not heeded, moisture will collect on the floor because of condensation. Let your installer – who should be knowledgeable – advise you of the ideal temperatures for both the supply lines and the return lines. Maximum temperatures must always be considered. Of course your system is supposed to ensure warmth on floors and in the rooms, but when the heat is turned up too high it simply becomes uncomfortable. Therefore a general tip would be to never go above 29°C. Let the installer do this for you. Among the Do’s and Don’ts of installing underfloor heating are also, among some, the following: Do not, before or during installation, cut or shorten the heating cable since it will interfere with the resistance rating that creates the heat. Once again, the installer should know this; do not install temperature sensors near heating or water pipes. Also, do not forget to allow for expansion joints during installation otherwise you will have unsightly cracks in your floor surface later on – sometimes even sooner rather than later. Once again, this is a job for the installer. Remember too never to use the system before it is fully installed to allow all adhesives and grouts to be properly cured first as a good tip of the Do’s and Don’ts of installing underfloor heating. The above are some tips to heed when you have your underfloor heating system installed. A good installer knows these things – and it is good for the client to have this knowledge as well!
