  1. An Overview of Components and Types of Cooling Towers Cooling towers are concrete structures that hold water for cooling water or the steam generated in an industrial process. In this heat exchanger, air and water are brought into contact to help reduce the water temperature. Here the waste heat is rejected to the atmosphere. Different components used in the cooling tower A cooling tower has a number of components that remain indispensable for its smooth operation. FlowMatrix has worked for more than 30 years in this field of cooling tower repair and maintenance. We see cooling towers melbourne have a high efficiency due to their inherent superior design. Here is a look at the components. Fills Drift eliminators Cold water basin Cooling tower structure Cooling tower fans Water distribution piping Fan deck and cylinder Louvres Distribution valves Nozzles Cooling tower fan motor

  2. Tower instrumentation Fills are the main heat distribution area and they are either splash fills or film fills. Drift eliminators cut the drift loss by changing the direction of the air flow path. The cold water basin is a foundation for the tower. It acts as a storage unit. The cooling tower structure is made of chemically treated wood, RCC, and fibre-reinforced plastic. Tower fans form the main component of the cooling system. Glass fibre and galvanised steel are common fan materials. Distribution pipes are buried underground to reduce the load. Fan deck provides the support for the fan

  3. cylinder used in the cooling tower. Louvres made of asbestos sheets retain circulating water and distribute the air flow. Distribution valves regulate flow of hot water. Nozzles, usually made of plastic, distribute hot water inside the cell. Vibration switches, level switches for hot and cold water basin, temperature measurement, and flow meters make up the instrumentation used in the cooling towers. Types of cooling towers Proper maintenance of cooling tower drift eliminators is needed to keep it operating at its best. There are many types of towers. Here is a look at some of them. Natural Draft: You find this in large plants for infinite water flow cooling. These hyperbolic shaped towers are tall to facilitate the escape of heat. Mechanical draft: In this, centrifugal and propeller fans are used to force air through the tower. Crossflow towers: This is designed to allow horizontal air flow. There is not much of recirculation as the exit velocity of the air is high. Forced draft: Here the fan is kept at the base of the cooling tower. Induced draft: Here the fan is mounted at the top. Counterflow towers: Air is designed to flow vertically upwards and the hot water falls down. Proper maintenance will elongate the life of the cooling tower. Use maintenance operators with good experience since they will be able to solve any emergency situation that arises.
