  3. Thanks for joining our team! At InfUSion Magazine, we strive to be the University of Georgia’s most accurate, reliable and reputable source of in-depth news. And that begins with you. You play an important role in making sure our product is best. InfUSion Magazinestarted in 1989 as Kross Cultures Magazine. Today, we’re the second largest print publication that serves the UGA community. We plan to keep on growing--and we hope you’ll grow with us. At InfUSion Magazine, we pride ourselves on being a great student organization for students to participate. And we work together as a team to ensure that characterization holds true. I encourage you to use this handbook to learn what to expect from InfUSion Magazine, what InfUSion Magazine expects from you, and how you can better our organization. If you need more information, just ask your sectional editor or director or the human resources director. Feel free to ask questions.   6. HANDBOOK 7 Our Mission Infusion Magazine shall enhance the University of Georgia and surrounding communities by creating, collecting and distributing high-quality news and information in an accurate and ethical manner.

Facts in Brief - Started in 1989 as Kross Kultures Magazine - UGA’s second-largest publication staff with 14 departments and 75-plus member staff - Printed on a quarterly schedule (4 issues a year) - Not-for-profit organization - Housed in the Office of Multicultural Services and Programs at UGA

  8. HANDBOOK 7 Ethics First Maintaining a high-level of integrity and good reputation of the organization is the TOP priority!

  9. HANDBOOK 7 Ethical or Unethical? You’re a advertising & marketing department staff member. One of the advertisers you’ve secured has just become the topic of one of the stories in the news department due to a scandal. The advertiser asks you to persuade the news editor into not running the story. You do and the story is removed. UNETHICAL

  10. HANDBOOK 7 Ethical or Unethical? You’re a news beat writer covering the SGA election. You don’t like one particular party due to rumors you’ve heard, and decide to write a story critical of their platform. In the story, you attain credible sources and conduct real interviews but only find interviewees that share your belief. UNETHICAL

  11. HANDBOOK 7 Ethical or Unethical? You’re a sports department staff member. A UGA football player lobbying for playing time offers to pay you $100 to write a column insisting that he starts. You don’t. ETHICAL

  21. Divisions & Departments EDITORIAL DIVISION This division is responsible for the creation and completion of the Magazine’s editorial content (all content except for advertisement). Home to Opinion, News, Sports, Entertainment, Feature, Online and Copy Editing departments. Opinion: Responsible for the creation, writing and editing to fill the Magazine’s Opinion section. News: Responsible for the creation, writing and editing to fill the Magazine’s News section. Sports: Responsible for the creation, writing and editing to fill the Magazine’s Sports section. Entertainment: Responsible for the creation, writing and editing to fill the Magazine’s Entertainment section. Feature: Responsible for the creation, writing and editing to fill the Magazine’s Feature section. Online: Responsible for the management and updating of the Magazine’s website. Copy Editing: Responsible for stylistic and grammatical editing of all content and page designs. ARTS This division is responsible for the artistic representations in the Magazine including editorial and business photography and illustrations. Graphic Design: Responsible for the creation and development of illustrations for editorial and advertising & marketing use. Responsible for creating any needed illustrations for all departments. Photography: Responsible for managing and compiling all photos needed by editorial and business departments. BUSINESS This division is responsible for the Magazine’s internal and external business operations. Finance: Responsible for managing organization’s budget and making purchases. Advertising & Marketing: Responsible for attaining advertisement revenue and marketing product to readers. Human Resources: Responsible for all internal functions of the organization regarding staff relations, discipline, payroll. etc. Public Relations: Responsible for all external functions of organization including media and community relations. Staff Development: Responsible for devising and monitoring the progress of all staff members regarding performance and responsibilities.
