    1. Application of the Lumbar Motion Monitor Risk Assessment in a Chicago Full-Service Hotel May 2006

    3. Rooms Observed The evaluation included one king room and one double room check out Our initial request was 3 king rooms Only a limited number of rooms were available The king bed at the Chicago Hotel did not appear to be as large as the king bed in previous king room assessments

    4. Chicago Full-Service Hotel Risk Assessment 3 workers were assessed Each worker cleaned one king checkout and one double checkout This risk analysis shows the bed tasks combined for the two types of rooms.

    5. Bed Tasks Evaluated Lift Mattress Head Lift Mattress Foot Tuck Side Comforter On/Off Pillow Tasks Pillows on and off bed Pillow cases on and off Bedspread on/off Sheets on/off

    6. Bathroom and General Cleaning Tasks Evaluated Clean Tub Clean Shower Wall Clean Toilet Clean Floor Clean Surface Clean Mirror Push/Pull Cart Vacuum Dust Replenish from Cart

    9. Understanding the Lumbar Motion Monitor Risk Model

    14. Assessment of Lift Rate

    15. Chicago Hotel Risk Assessment Lift rate = exertions/hour Average # of exertions king room = 455.6 Average # of exertions double room = 601.6 Generally workers clean 15 rooms/day To minimize exertion/hr all king rooms figures will be used Exertions/hr = (455*15)/8 = 855 exertion/hr The exertion rate is for the job and therefore will be the same for all subtasks.

    16. Total Number of Exertions

    17. Number of Bed and Bath Exertions The number of exertions for the bed and bath tasks is 208.3 (208.3*15)/8= 390 390 exertions/hr will put the lift rate risk at 98% for this variable Lift rate is high because the worker does 15 room/day

    18. Bed Tasks

    27. Summary of Bed Task Risks

    28. Bathroom Tasks

    36. Summary of Bathroom Task Risk

    37. Cart Pushing and Pulling Tasks

    40. Room Cleaning Tasks

    44. Summary of Cart and Room Cleaning Tasks

    45. Summary of Task Risks

    46. Overall Job Risk The highest risk values for each component of risk are used across all tasks

    48. Overall Job Risk The maximum moment risk component of the model is caused by the push/pull cart task of the job To examine the influence of pushing and pulling the cart on the overall risk, the overall risk will be calculated without this task.
