  2. Introduction • Color theory is a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual impact of specific color combinations • Color theory principles first appear in the writings of Alberti (c.1435) and the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci(c.1490),

  3. Primary Colors Red Yellow and Blue

  4. Secondary Colors Orange Violet Green

  5. TERTIARY COLORS • Formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color • Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green and yellow-green

  6. Analogous Colors Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel

  7. Complementary Colors Complementary colors are any two colors which are directly opposite each other

  8. Warm vs. Cool • Warm colors – red, yellow, browns and tans • Cool colors - blue green, blue violet, and grays
