  1. Awards and Scholarships

  2. Internal and External Scholarships • Scholarship: usually an award with money • Internal awards / scholarships: offered by our school • External awards / scholarships: offered by external bodies; e.g., Youde Memorial Scholarship • For the descriptions of some external scholarships, please refer to the notice boards. Some awards are open to all for application.

  3. Academic Award • For F.1 to F.3, the Academic Award is given to the students who rank first to fifth in the grand total marks of an examination as well as those who get the highest grand total marks in each class. • For F.4 and F.5, students who get the highest grand total marks in an examination in each class will be given the Academic Award.

  4. Subject Prize • A Subject Prize is given to the student who ranks first in a subject in an examination. If there is a tie for the top mark, all students who get the top mark will be given the subject prize.

  5. Academic Progress Award • For F.1 to F.3, the Academic Progress Award is given to the five students whose positions in form have moved up the most from 1st term to 2nd term. • For F.4, the student whose position in class has moved up the most from 1st term to 2nd term in each class will be given the award.

  6. Good Conduct Award • Given once in each term • Given to a student who either a. gets the votes of 1/3 of classmates and the votes of three teachers or b. gets the votes of 5 teachers • Voting is based on the following criteria: helpfulness, politeness, responsibility, honesty and modesty.

  7. Outstanding Conduct Award • Given to a F. 5 student who has received the good conduct award for 7 times in the past 5 years • Given to a F. 7 student who has received the outstanding conduct award in F. 5 and who has received the good conduct award for 3 times in F. 6 and F. 7

  8. Long Service Award • Given to a student who has been a student leader for five years (a second award is given to a F. 7 student with 6 years of service) • Student leaders include the following: • S.A. Ex. Co. Members • House Captain and Ex. Co. Members • Prefects • Guidance Monitresses • Library Prefects • I.T. Prefects • CATSO Ex. Co. Members • Monitresses

  9. Outstanding Student Leader Award • There are awards for outstanding student leaders in each student leader group; e.g., Outstanding Guidance Monitress, Outstanding Prefect, Outstanding Library Prefect, Outstanding IT Prefect, Good Monitress.

  10. Punctuality and Good Attendance Award • Given to F. 5 students who have perfect attendance rate / punctuality record for 5 consecutive years. • Also given to F. 7 students who have the above records for 7 consecutive years.

  11. Student Award Scheme • There are three levels in this scheme: bronze, silver and gold. A student is given the Award if she has earned enough points in all four areas: academic, extracurricular activities, conduct and service. Methods to earn points in these areas are specified in the SAS handbook. Upon finishing one level, a student may move up to a higher level.

  12. Reading Award • A certificate and a book coupon is awarded to a student who has satisfied the requirements specified by the Reading Award Scheme. • Should read a specified number of English Chinese books • Should write a specified number of book reports • Additional certificates and book coupons are awarded to book reports of good quality.

  13. Cheng Ting Pong Scholarship • A scholarship of $400 is given to the top student in the final examinations in each form from F. 1 to F. 3. • A scholarship of $600 is given to the student who made the greatest academic progress in each form from F.1 to F. 3 .

  14. PTA Scholarship • A scholarship of $1000 and a certificate • Given to two students in each form for • Good academic results • Good conduct • Financial needs • Service • For F. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, given on prize giving day in February for 1st term performance • For F. 5 and F. 7, given on Speech Day

  15. Alumni Scholarship • Two scholarships of $1000 each • Awarded to a student with financial difficulties • Average academic performance • Open to all for application; deadline: 31st November • Details and application form can be found in our school’s web page.

  16. PTA scholarships for Outstanding Performance in F. 5 • A scholarship of $500 and a certificate • Given to one Arts student and one Sciences student who • got the highest grades in F. 5 Certificate Exam. • And who came back to our school to study F. 6

  17. Our Lady Of The Rosary Scholarship • A scholarship of $500 and a certificate • Given to the best five students in F. 5 Certificate Exams • Should score 22 points or more in best six subjects • Should come back to our school to study F. 6

  18. Financial Assistance Funds • There are also various funds to help students with financial difficulties. • E.g., The Hong Kong Jockey Club Education Fund, open to F. 4 and F. 5 students; the Sing Tao Foundation Students’ Loan Fund • The PTA Student Financial Assistance Fund is open to all students, to help them pay for a part of their extracurricular activities

  19. Points to be added for F. 6 Admission • SAS Silver Award (0.75 point) • SAS Gold Award (1.5 points) • Outstanding student leaders award (e.g., Prefect, Guidance Monitress, Library Prefect) for two times (0.75 points) • Long Service Award (0.75 points) • Good Conduct Award for five times (0.75 points) • Recommendation by the school authorities (0.75 points)
