Main Messages • CERN convention 29 Sep 1954 - mission: • To provide world-class laboratory in Europe, to understand the structure of Matter (and the Universe) • Coordinate fundamental research in particle physics • Help reunite Europe, stop brain-drain • 50 years of successful European cooperation (now: 20 MS) • Development of new technologies: • WWW, GRID, medical applications, many others • 2004: Pioneer in world-wide scientific collaboration • (LHC, GRID)
