  2. By the end of tonight you will be able to- • Understand the purpose & method of Scouting • Explain the Yellow Card Scheme • Recognise the existence of P.O.R. • Understand the importance of safe activities and Risk Assessments • Understand on how the rest of the Training Scheme operates

  3. Scouting Principles • Duty to Yourself • Duty to Others • Duty to God

  4. Scouting Purpose • To help young people achieve their full individual potential in these areas: • Physical • Intellectual • Social • Spiritual • Responsible Citizens. As members of communities across the globe

  5. Scouting Methods • Variety of Activities • New Experiences • Exploring the Outdoors • Participating in Teams • Taking Responsibility

  7. Young People First The Yellow Card

  8. Young People First It is the policy of The Scout Association to safeguard the welfare of all members by protecting them from physical, sexual and emotional harm.

  9. Yellow Card • A code of good practise • As a young leader a young person will think of you as a leader • Should be Aware of Content • Code of Conduct • What happens if…..?

  10. Project • In a small group put the statement cards into an order of importance.

  11. Child Protection • Keep you safe • Keep other young people safe • Defines what is acceptable • Defines what is unacceptable • Allows you to be a good role model • Ensures it will not happen to you

  12. What are Risks Risk Assessing

  13. Risk Definition • An action that can cause harm to you and/or other people • Crossing a Road • Meeting/Activity Venue being used • Activity • Adventurous Activity

  14. How to do it • Recognise the Risk • Evaluate the Risk • Order the Risks highest – lowest • Identify measures to reduce risk • Document the results

  16. Exercise • Create a Risk Assessment for using for a programme event in this building

  17. Risks & Rules • Helps to avoid accidents • Formalising planning for activities • Rules of the Association (P.O.R.) • If in doubt ask
