  1. Guidelines on Fast Hip Replacement Recovery To recover your mobility after having hip replacement surgery, you need to follow the advice of your specialist and/or physiotherapist with care and consistency. The success of the surgery is related to the effort you put in during recovery. So if you want to regain the mobility you enjoyed before your hip problems started, these guidelines need to inform your day-to-day actions until your recovery is complete. What you need to do 1

  2. Hip replacement Recovery requires you take adequate rest and take your pain management seriously. Careful pain management makes the early phase of recovery less of a struggle and prepares you to have a better mindset for the next phase. Another important part of recovery is regular light exercises and physical therapy. Because your body has to heal and adapt to the prosthesis you need to accept that your recovery will be a very gradual process – healing takes time. While in Hospital During the short-term recovery phase after a hip replacement, you are usually monitored in hospital for 3 to 4 days. On day 1 and 2 of your stay in hospital the medical team will give you pointers on how to position yourself in bed, how to move about, and at some stage, give you a walking aid to ease you into bearing weight on your new hip. The first minor victory of this phase is being able to stand and move about with a walking frame. Before you are discharged, your team will also begin to wean you off your painkillers. The next benchmark being getting a full nights sleep without painkillers. However, the main thing your team wants to see before you can be discharged is that you: can get to and from going to the bathroom, (using a walking aid) can get in and out of bed can dress unassisted can stand for short periods and can manage a few stairs ● ● ● ● ● Provided you can do all these things without losing you balance or serious pain then you should be ready to go home. Early home Hip Replacment recovery The next phase of your short term recovery hip replacement recovery video is about using your walking aid to get about for longer to increase your muscle strength and endurance. With the benefit of special stretches and exercises you can then graduate to 2

  3. standing and moving about without a device to bear your weight. To reach this stage the role of physiotherapy and light exercises are all important. Being able to move about your house unaided is then followed by walking 200-300 metres without taking a rest. The time it takes to get to this point is generally 4-6 weeks. Though it is important not be discouraged if your recovery seems to be taking longer than this. Rushing your hip surgery recovery can risk the healing process. While remaining stationary for long periods or avoiding exercise can potentially lead to blood clots and stiffness. If you ever have any doubts about the way you are approaching your recovery and/or exercises, it is always best to consult your specialist or physiotherapist as to what course of action to take. 3
