It has been estimated that children from middle-income homes may experience up to 1700 hours of parent-child storybook reading prior to entering the first grade whereas children from lower-income families may experience as few as 25 hours. Fancy Nancy • Theme – Fancy • Focus skill - Vocabulary • Welcoming activity – Bejewelling crowns • Activities -Hangman -Dress-up -Rhyming concentration • Take home activities -King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub -Dry erase board and marker -Coloring books with suggestions for vocabulary enhancement -Rhyming concentration

How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? • Theme – Dinosaurs • Focus skill - Rhyming • Welcoming activity – Dinosaur necklaces and tatoos • Activities -Dinosaur races (put dinosaurs in ABC order) -Dino-Bingo with rhyming words -Board game • Take home activities - Dinosaur Alphabet, I Want a Dinosaur, Dinosaurumpus -Alphabet dinosaurs -Dino Bingo cards with plastic dinosaurs as markers -Board game with cards

Cook-a-Doodle-Doo • Theme – Farm • Focus skill - Sequencing • Welcoming activity – Farm animal magnets • Activities -Making dessert (strawberry shortcake) -Hatching stories -Reading Detective • Take home activities - If You Give a Pig a Pancake -Box of pancake mix, spatula, sequencing cards -Story eggs -Happy Meal box, educational placemats, hand lens

How I Became a Pirate • Theme – Pirate • Focus skill - Syllabication • Welcoming activity – Pirate hats • Activities -Walk the Plank -Treasure chest file folder game -Down by the Bay • Take home activities - How I Became a Pirate, Pirate Pete -Treasure chest file folder game with jewels -recording of Down By the Bay

Five Little Monkeys • Theme – Monkeys • Focus skill – Review • Welcoming activity – Monkey visors • Activities -Banana Split relays -Monkey races -Acka Backa -Giant “Twister” game • Take home activities - Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Five Little Monkeys at the Carwash, etc. -Banana split recipe -Barrel of Monkeys
