  3. How are muscles controlled? Voluntary muscles – muscles that you are able to control arm, leg, face Involuntary muscles – muscles you don’t control consciously – Stomach, intestines Muscle Control

  4. What are the three types of muscles? Skeletal Smooth Cardiac Types of Muscles

  5. What is skeletal muscle? Skeletal – move bones – most common Tendons attach muscle to bone Striated – has stripes Voluntary Skeletal Muscle Striations

  6. What is cardiac muscle? Cardiac – found only in the heart Has striations Cardiac Muscle

  7. What is smooth muscle? Smooth – internal organs (lining) Not striated Involuntary Smooth Muscle

  8. How do muscles move your body? Pairs of skeletal muscles work together One set contracts while the opposing muscle relaxes Biceps and triceps How do muscles work?

  9. How does the muscular system work with other systems? • Skeletal system – muscles are attached to bone by tendons which help bone move • Digestive system – smooth muscle lines the organs of the digestive tract

  10. Diseases of the muscluar system • Muscular dystrophy- is an inherited disorder which causes the muscles in the body to become very weak. The muscles break down and are replaced with fatty deposits over time. • Fibromyalgia- diffuse chronic pain, fatigue and many other symptoms. It affects more women than men, mostly between ages 20 and 50.
