So, it is important to understand the factors that increase the risk for dementia and what can be done to reduce the same. Factors That Increase The Risk Excessive consumption of alcohol. Diabetes & high blood pressure. Sleep disordered breathing & other sleeping issues. Isolation from the social world due to depression. Unhealthy eating habits & high cholesterol level. Smoking cigarettes on daily basis. Obesity & other metabolic problems. Head injury suffered in an accident.
