  1. Easy Steps To Improve Your Skills For Making Decisions Although home-based decisions can be a bit insignificant, making decisions at work could have a huge impact on a person's career. When you think about it every day at work is basically one decision after another particularly for project managers. In fact, a project manager's competency is measured on the basis of the quality of the decisions taken and the results achieved. As you progress up the career ladder it is all you do and every decision is crucial. Six Simple Actions For Better Decision-Making Skills Let's review a few simple steps that will help you make better decisions. Start with the desired outcome The purpose of taking a decision is to attain a particular result. This should be a good starting point: keep the final goal in mind. What does the optimum result look like? Your goal may be to increase metrics such as productivity or business performance such as increased sales or expanding your market share or even addressing issues like virus attacks or data leaks. If you know where you want to be, you can align your efforts towards achieving it and helps reduce distractions. Recognize patterns by using information and data Data is the new oil. We are in a technologically connected world, where everything from watches to cars is producing massive amounts of data. The data generated by these sources can be utilized to uncover valuable information, such as market behavior, customer buying patterns and employee performance indicators as well as ways to optimize costs. With these information sources at fingertips, the process of making decisions by flip coin becomes more rational and offers more control over results. Simulate the results The process of predicting the outcome for various scenarios is a blend of art and science. The science component can be derived from techniques like issue trees, SCQA (situation, complexity questions, answers, situation), and MECE (mutually exclusive comprehensive, in a collective way) to mention several. The art of being able to imagine the outcome and visualize the situation. This may come from knowledge, experience and a thorough appreciation of your customers. However, for the majority of the time this is just common sense. Rely on your guts.

  2. Henry Winkler, also known as The Fonz Henry Winkler, also known as The Fonz "Your mind is only aware of a few things. Your intuition or inner voice is the best source for information. If you are listening to what you know instinctively it will always direct you on the right path." Recognize your cognitive biases We are, generally speaking at the mercy of our cognitive biases. This is evident even in the most simple of choices that we make, for example, the people we like to be around. It's due to our bias to confirm that draws us towards people who don't challenge our beliefs. As a business professional as a professional, you'll need to deal with a myriad of biases that could adversely affect your choices. A prime example is the part of bias in selection of employees where HR managers can make erroneous choices by judging a prospective candidate on the basis of the characteristics of their predecessor.
