  2. MISSION STATEMENT • develop a network of individuals and institutions, • pool together ideas and resources of network participants • disseminate the resources to empower the people of Nepal with information and support needed to help them improve and sustain the quality of life.

  3. FOUR-E FOCUS • Education is the key. • Economicdevelopment: Reduce the culture of dependency • Environmental stewardship of natural resources • Enlightenment of individual’s role in a democratic society

  4. CURRENT PROJECTS • ENF Scholarship Program. Annual merit and need-based scholarships to about 40 students attending Himanchal High School at Myagdi. $1500/yr • CCODER (Center for Community Development and Research) Scholarship Program. Alternative Gift International grant to provide scholarships for quality education to about 300 needy students in Gorkha. $31,000 • Income Generating Shutter Construction Project at Janata High School, Biratnagar - Sponsored by Dr. Kabiraj Neupane, Hawaii $4000 to his alma-mater • English Teacher Support at Amar Jyoti Janata High School, Luintel, Gorkha – Sponsored by Drs. Bal Sharma & Bhairav Khakural with other SAJA members. $2000/yr • Dalit Student Education Support. Master’s Education Scholarships to three dalit students at Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara. $5000/2 yrs • High School Building Constructionat Amppipal, Gorkha – Sponsored by Alumnus, Dr. Bal K Sharma, North Carolina $10,000 • Community Based Natural Resource Management in the Middle Hills at Hamsapur, Kaski. Funded by UNDP, ICIMOD, and ENF $65,000

ENF CAN HELP YOU HELP NEPAL • Empower Nepal Foundation supports your efforts to help Nepal by providing partial funding of your dream projects. • ENF helps facilitate money transfer to project bank accounts in Nepal and provides tax-exempt letters to donors here • Priority is given to projects that show commitment of expatriate sponsor and the local community to implement the project.

PROJECT PROPOSAL GUIDELINE • Visit www.empowernepal.org and download the project proposal guideline. • Write the project proposal and send with email attachment to Dr. Bhairav Khakural (brkhakural@yahoo.com) and Dr. Padam Sharma (padamsharma@comcast.net) • The submitted proposal will be evaluated by ENF Project Evaluation Committee and recommended to ENF Board for funding.

  9. Proposal Evaluation Criteria • local control • volunteer & community involvement • project priority & need of recipients • motivation & accountability of sponsor • ease & feasibility of implementation • comparative cost-benefit & % spent on administrative expenses
