  1. Setting Up a Montessori-inspired Playroom for Kids Play is a great way of learning and a good workout for brain at the same time. This is one reason why schools invest a lot on having proper playground and equipment for children. If we talk specifically about play schools, they have dedicated playrooms to improve the sensory, conflict resolution, decision making, and negotiation skills of children. The Montessori curriculum for preschool in India is the best example of how children learn while playing. For those who want to set up a Montessori-inspired playroom for kids, this could be a great start. Let’s look at the aspects to consider when setting up the activity area. • Make a list of activities you will be conducting solo and in teams • What are the ways in which you want the child to interact. It could be through blocks, colours or papers. • How will you supervise the kid and what kind of supervision is required? • Once you have the answers to all these questions, you will be pretty clear on what all elements to have in the playroom. To help you further, here are the tips to move to the next level and create the playroom. • Do not stuff the room with toys. It is good to have limited toys in the room and keep rotating these toys so that kids do not lose interest. • There should be a lot of space in the room for kids to move around and explore the surroundings. • The room should be planned in such a way that kids can access things without the assistance of teachers. The activity props should be within their reach. • There should be a designated place for everything in the room. The order and consistency is beneficial for kids as they acquire the same skills. • You must see everything through the eyes of the child. This means, you must get down to their height and see if the space looks attractive. If it is easy for you to locate everything. The list of dos and dont’s could be endless. It is always better to get in touch with an expert who has experience in designing such space. When setting up the playroom, make sure you use different materials such as wood, plastic, foam etc., but none of the furniture, toys or activity props should’ve sharp edges. Use your imagination to create a playroom that looks attractive at the first look and is good enough to keep children engaged for hours.
