DON’T FORGET to put your elective choices in order of preference. • Elective choices are on the reverse side of sheet • You MUST include two alternatives… Just in case! • Pay attention to P1, L, PM or # as these courses are “ADDITIONAL ELECTIVES” and do NOT count as your 8 courses that you must take! • The choices you make now DETERMINE the courses we have

16. 2020 Admissions • UVichas expanded the list of approved courses they will accept. Please check the list for 2020 admissions to be sure you are meeting the requirements  • SFUhas expanded the courses they will accept on List A and List B. The requirements are still quite specific for each faculty so please check carefully. Also, beginning with Fall 2020 admissions SFU will be looking at all grade 11 and grade 12 approved courses for consideration. • UBC and U of T have not made any further changes from the ones they implemented for 2019 admissions. They are still looking for 6 academic grade 12 courses, preferably in an area of study related to what you plan to pursue. UBC is also looking at grade 11 marks and will consider non-academic courses for breadth in certain applicable areas. We have not received any information about changes to 2020 admissions for any other universities.

17. Online Summer School Repeated Courses • Some universities prefer student take all classes in regular day school – not online, not summer school. • For some universities, online courses have specific completion dates that are earlier than taking the course at HWSS. • Some schools will not accept the mark for a repeated course (particularly for Engineering or Business) or will automatically deduct % off.

18. Averages, Grade 11 Marks & Starting at College… • The Grade Point Averages needed to enter programs varies depending on the program and institution. Generally, successful students seem to have to be at least in the 80s, plus have complimentary additions to their applications (personal profiles, volunteer and extra-curricular activities, etc.). • Direct entrance into competitive programs like Engineering, Computer Science, Science, KIN, Business: admission averages are creeping up toward 90% and higher. This might change with UBC/SFU new admission system but other schools remain very competitive. • Nursing programs are extremely competitive. For direct entry nursing students should be presenting grades in very high 80’s or low 90’s. Some require CASPer exam and volunteer hours.   • Grade 11 marks REALLY matter for every school, not just UBC/SFU. If a grade 12 mark is not available they will look at the grade 11 equivalent (ie: Chem 11  for Chem 12) • Grade 9 & 10 marks matter for US schools. • Beginning at college can be a statistical advantage for students planning to do post-graduate study. Grades matter when getting into grad school and grades are often higher for kids who come from college – GPA start over again after college.
