Looks strong and sturdy. 5 yrs and above. Small enough for children to push/play with. Small pieces- screws?

  3. OBJECTIVE 2 Research Section 2.Questionnaire Write at least 10 questions to give to a child, parent or shop owner. The questions should be written so that the user can fill in tick boxes. This will make it easier to collate information at the end. Again, base your questions on ‘MCFARTES’ Eg, 1.Would you pay more than £5 for a toy? Remember to annotate your questions! Yes No Maybe

  4. OBJECTIVE 2 Research Section 3.Questionnaire Results Using Microsoft Excel produce the results of your questionnaire for each question. Print out the results in what ever form you like, Pie Charts or Bar Charts and annotate each result and explain what the results show. You can clearly see that the majority of people would pay up to £5 for a toy. 21% said that they would consider paying up to £5. 16% said they wouldn’t pay £5. I will take this into consideration when considering the size of my toy, as this may affect the price. Example of annotation

  5. OBJECTIVE 2 Research Section 4. Toy Safety • This is obviously an important part of the research section. It is vital that you find out as much information as you can. This can be achieved by going on the following websites: • http://www.btha.co.uk/- go to Toy Safety • www.nypirg.org/toysafety/toytips.html • Go onto the above websites and download/ print out any information on: • Choking Test • Safety symbols/logos • Non-toxic paints • Choking Hazards- small parts • Anything else you can find….. • Go through the information and highlight relevant sentences with a highlighter pen. Cut out the information and paste onto your A3 sheet and annotate the information you’ve highlighted.

  6. OBJECTIVE 2 RESEARCH REVIEW Write a paragraph under each heading about your findings for each section, highlight the most important aspects of your research. PRODUCT ANALYSIS QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS From my research off the internet I found many different examples of wooden toys. The majority of them were made from pine, and incorporated some kind of interactive element.. When designing my toy I will also try to use some of the ideas that have been demonstrated in this section. For example, the picture of the money car made me realise that a toy should not be just for entertainment, but also have an actual function. EXAMPLE Next intentions………… SAFETY

  7. SPECIFICATION OBJECTIVE 2 A specification is a statement that tells the designer exactly what the product has to do and what the design requirements are. To make this easy we will use MCFARTES to help us generate the specification. All you have to do is write 8 statements under 3 headings; MUST, SHOULD and MAY. Look back through your research section and at the example below, to help you create your own specification.

  8. SPECIFICATION OBJECTIVE 2 Using ‘MCFARTES’, write a simple sentence describing what your toy,MUST, SHOULDor MAYhave or include. Remember to refer back to your questionnaire. MUST M I must use timber to make my toy. M I must make the first of fifty as it will be Batched Produced. C The price of manufacture must be £10 or below as this was the result of my questionnaire. F My questionnaire stated that it must be educational and fun. A It must be colourful and eye-catching R It must be made using durable materials as it may get thrown around. T My questionnaire stated that it must be made for 8yrs and above. E It must be made so that children can push, lift or pull the toy easily. S It must not have splinters or small parts that children could swallow.. Here is an example of the ‘MUST’ section of your specification. Now do the same for SHOULD and MAY. Remember refer back to your research!

SHOULD M I should use pine to make my toy. M It should be simple so that I can make templates for easy manufacture. C The cost of the toy should not exceed £15. F The toy should be easily transportable so that it can be played in many environments. A It should be well finished using stains or varnish. R My questionnaire results stated that my toy should last for at least 5 years. T My toy should be aimed at both girls and boys. E It should be made so that it can be easily stored. S My toy should be made so that it meets the British Safety Standards requirements. Here is an example of the ‘SHOULD’ section of your specification. Now do the same for MUST and MAY. Remember refer back to your research!

A I may experiment with different stains to make it colourful. R I may use experiment with hardwoods as these are generally more durable. T If I include small parts such as beads I may have to increase the age group 8+ E I may have to consider the size of children’s hands if my design incorporates small pieces.
