  2. INTRODUCTION A 10,000km ride by horseback from Delhi to Beijing across India Pakistan and China on a campaign to improve education in deprived parts of those countries.

  3. OBJECTIVES To raise £100,000 for the development organisation called ActionAid to improve education in India, Pakistan and China. To show the world what the real problems are facing education in the above three countries. To write about the essential work that ActionAid and other development organisations are doing to battle them. To promote UNESCO’s Education for All. To promote India, Pakistan and China. To show the startling reality behind the stereotypes of these three great countries. To enjoy a lifetime opportunity to follow my heart across Asia and on horseback. To follow in the footsteps of some of the world's greatest ever explorers. To make a broadcast standard documentary on this ride.

  4. Silk Road to China R4E follows an old branch of the Silk Road that hasn’t seen hoof or pad in a thousand years.

  5. INDIA • First leg of 500kms • Nervous first day at Red Fort • Monkey villages, nomads, snake charmers, butch farriers and the entire menagerie of India. • Uproar at the border

  8. PAKISTAN • Across the Punjab plains (500 kms) • Ascent over the Himalayas (1000 kms) • Old Silk & trade route from Delhi to Kashgar. • Three month journey • In the hoof steps of Marco Polo and Peter Fleming

  9. AFGHANI SCAMPS Afghani ponies carried the ride across Pakistan but it was only Sparks and Kabul that made it over the Himalayas. Rohan and Griffin proved to be two stallion too much and had to be sold shortly before leaving. Sparks and Kabul Rohan and Griffin

  10. PAKISTAN: EARTHQUAKE • 03rd October 2005 • Pakistan earthquake (Oct 05) • 70,000 dead, 74,000 injured • Family ripped apart, purda ruined. • A new reality for the country.

  11. PAKISTAN: SCHOOLS • Ten Schools Visited • ActionAid in Action • Every school a new story: from Gypsy schools to Earthquake tent facilities. • Every school a different solution to illiteracy.

SILKROAD TO BEIJING • 6000Kms to Beijing • Along the original Silkroad • Beginning in China’s Pamirs, skirting the edge of the forbidding Taklamakan desert, crossing Polo’s dreaded desert of Lop for the final gallop over the grasslands of Inner Mongolia to Beijing. • To rediscover a forgotten way of life.
