GEONETCast Overview GEONETCast is a good way to access earth observation data… • Operational or project data dissemination • High data volumes are involved • Data timeliness and availability are important • A number of users could benefit from the same data • Regular data extraction is required (hourly,daily,weekly) • Data is needed in “low infrastructure” areas or areas of no or limited network (e.g. Internet) availabilities Lothar.Wolf@eumetsat.int

GEONETCast Overview GEONETCast reception stations are • Self contained • Stand-alone • Include data discovery via offline version of the “Product Navigator” ( link to training material!) • Of the shelf very low cost systems GEONETCast is linked to the EO-portal • Online data discovery and indication of data availability via “near-real-time dissemination” on GEONETCast Lothar.Wolf@eumetsat.int

Status of Work • Global Coverage • NOAA’s GEONETCast Americas acceptance is nearly finalised; • EUMETCast – FENGYUNCast data exchange is operational; • Dissemination of exchanged data to start this year; • Inclusion of Russia’s MITRA system to be initiated at the technical level. Status of Work (cont) • Initial Operational Capability • Fully demonstrated at GEO IV in Cape Town; • Implementation follows the Global Design Concept and Implementation Plan; • Effort now focussed on moving from demonstration to operations; • GEONETCast Network Centre Service & Functional Specification being prepared. Status of Work (cont) • User & Data Provider Engagement • Each region working directly with its users and data providers; • Coordinating with WMO IGDDS and WIS; • Working with providers such as SERVIR, USEPA, RANET, JCOMM/GOOS, ECMWF, INPE, AMESD, CBERS; • A number of EU projects in the approval process include use of GEONETCast – DevCoCast, AIDA, AEGOS.
