  3. Overview • What is DCA? • Block Diagram • System Components • Design Features • Fingerprint Operation • Questions Sponsored by

  4. What is DCA? • An electronic portable device, based on the MSP430 microcontroller, that helps the professor take the class attendance automatically. • Validates the student identity avoiding any type of fraud. • Ease of use for both, student and professor. Sponsored by

  5. DCA Block Diagram Sponsored by

  6. SystemComponents • MSP430F149 microcontroller • Ultra-low power • 64KB flash memory • Serial connection • Other peripherals • USBMOD3 Module • UART to USB conversion • Self-powered mode Sponsored by

  7. SystemComponents • FPC1010 Area Sensor • FPC2000 Fingerprint Processor • Fast, easy and secure • Fingerprint recognition eliminates the need for magnetic cards or pin numbers. • Fingerprints are a unique and precise ID. Sponsored by

  8. SystemComponents • 1 MB Flash Memory • Lithium Battery Charging Controller • LCD display • Keypad Sponsored by

  9. Design Features • Handheld device • PC software to program the device, upload, and download attendance data. • Automatic generation of attendance reports • Flash memory will be used to store the class sections and student information. Sponsored by

  10. Design Features • DCA Simple User Interface • An LCD and Keypad will provide the professor with an easy user interface program. • The system will verify the professors ID for operation of the device. • Password protected system Sponsored by

  11. Design Features • PC Simple User Interface • USB interface with the PC. • The professor will be able to generate class attendance reports as well as changing the system information. Sponsored by

  12. Fingerprint Brief Operation Enroll fingerprints Student presses fingerprint. FPC2000 processor retrieves the image and builds a template for it. The microcontroller downloads the fingerprint template and stores it in an internal data base. TemplatesDB Verify fingerprints Student presses fingerprint. FPC2000 processor retrieves the image and builds a template for it. It compares this template against uploaded candidates. The microcontroller uploads to the FPC2000 the fingerprint templates to be compared against the new template. TemplatesDB Sponsored by
