  1. Article 1: Spribrooklyn.com A BRIEF ABOUT COMMON MENTAL AILMENTS Mental illnesses are not usually treated with the same calibre as physical, visible illnesses mainly due to three reasons: Their symptoms are not clear and do not manifest themselves in defined ways Most symptoms that appear are mistaken as normal stress/ tension induced temporary disorders Mental illnesses have been made into a stigma, with people refusing to admit even if they have a problem There are various types of illnesses and most of them are nowhere near the curable stage. Ongoing research has thrown some light on the manifestations and control methods for the symptoms and diseases. Bipolar Disorder Bipolar disorder is characterised by its extreme mood swings, often ranging from utter depression to thoughtless mania. The patients swing from hopeless despair to manic energy that is often unfocused. Sometimes, suicidal tendencies and other risky behaviour can be seen too. It can be very risky to the patient and everyone around them. Serious cases of bipolar disorder are known to cause vivid hallucinations and other problems. There are no known cure methods but with enough treatment, diseases can be controlled. Ongoing bipolar disorder research studies in New York City have hinted at the availability of medicinal cure for the same. Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterised by delusions, hallucinations and other cognitive difficulties. It usually appears in early adulthood and can continue lifelong. Schizophrenia can make the sufferer hear voices that are not there. They are usually convinced that some others are reading their minds and controlling their thoughts and actions. Schizophrenia can often distress patients severely, making them frantic and anxious. The main difficulty in diagnosing and treating schizophrenia is that the patients are often thought of as delusional, and others cannot understand what they are talking about. Also the symptoms are not there always and the patient can often seem to be normal and completely balanced. In extreme cases of schizophrenia, people have to rely on others to do their normal day to day activities and often refuse treatment because they believe there is nothing wrong with them. Schizophrenia research studies in New York City have concluded that with treatment, people can lead almost normal lives. Further studies have led experts to believe that it is in fact an amalgamation of diseases and can be treated. Depression

  2. Article 1: Spribrooklyn.com Often the most ignored mental disorder, depression is not a passing sadness but a persistent sense of worthlessness and long term lack of desire to do even things they once enjoyed. Diagnosing depression is becoming increasingly harder because the symptoms are present in both mind and the body. Depression manifests itself in the body, physically as tiredness and in the mind as continuous mood fluctuation disorders. Depression research studies in New York City have analysed the symptoms that interfere with the patient’s ability to work, study, sleep, eat and do normal activities. Headache Since headache is the first and most common physical symptom of mental illness, research studies focus on identifying the root cause of the headache including the hormonal reasons and treat them based on that. Many organizations like SPRI Brooklyn have conducted extensive research, in the field of mental illness that aim to help people with mental disorders to live normal lives.
