  1. WE CELEBRATE THE COVENANT OF LOVE IN MATRIMONY Lesson 16

  2. The sacrament of matrimony A sacrament that binds TWO Baptized Christians What is mixed Marriage? A Partnership of the Whole Life

  3. Mixed marriages are the union of Catholics with non-Catholics.

  4. MARRIAGE AS A COVENANT Three Characteristics of Marriage Unity – One Man is united to One Woman

  5. Fidelity – Both parties keep the PROMISE EXCLUSIVE INFIDEL Indissolubility – until the DEATH of one of the Partners ADULTERY

  6. The Importance Of A Marriage Covenant The Foundation of Marriage. Marriage is like a house. If it is to last, it needs a solid foundation. Unconditional Mutual Covenant

  7. A Covenant Under Attack. Four major social forces today are conspiring to undermine the Biblical view of marriage as a SACRED COVENANT

  8. SECULARISM has caused the loss of the sense of the sacred in various realms of life, including marriage. For example, the Lord’s Day is no longer viewed by many Christians as a "holy day" but rather as a "holiday," a day to seek for personal pleasure and profit, rather than for the presence and peace of God.

  9. HUMANISM teaches that marriage is a human and not a divine institution. Its function is to meet a person’s needs: social, sexual, emotional, and financial.

  10. SELFISM tells us that we have the right to reach self-fulfillment, self-sufficiency, and self-development. If marriage becomes a stumbling block to self- actualization, it must be dissolved.

  11. RELATIVISM in moral issues facilitates the breaking up of marital relationships and the establishing of new ones. A child of humanism and relativism is the "no fault" divorce law which makes the dissolution of marriage so easy

  12. The Three Goods of Marriage • Marriage as a Sacrament • 2 essential things • Marriage Fidelity/Indissolubility • Serving Life: Offspring

  13. Vocation of Married Life What is a Vocation? A call to share in God’s own life of LOVE.
