  1. Covenant Lesson 5

  2. Walking Through the Pieces • Genesis 15 First illustration of one actually passing through pieces of flesh • Setting: Abram is childless: Eliezer will be heir • Eliezer was of Damascus! God said one born from his own body would be his heir (vs.4) • Gen. 15:5 Early morning? • Gen. 15:11 Daylight • Gen. 15:17 Evening • Gen. 15:16 Fourth generation is Moses

  3. Galatians 3 and Romans 4 • Gal. 3:8 God preached the gospel to Abraham • He believed the Lord and it was counted to him as righteousness • Romans 4:1-3 Abraham was justified by faith – not the Law

  4. Jesus, the Sacrifice for Sins • Is there a walk between pieces of a sacrifice in the New Covenant? • Mal. 3:1 Jesus is the Messenger of the Covenant • John 1:29,36 Jesus is the Lamb of God • I Cor. 5:7 Jesus is our Passover • Jesus, then, is the sacrifice of the Covenant • Matt. 25 and Luke 22 First day of Feast of Unleavened Bread – the day of sacrifice • Matt. 27:45-51 The veil was torn in two • John 14:6 Jesus is THE way THE truth and THE life.

  5. Hebrews 10:19-20 • His death made the way for people to walk through to God • His body sacrificed was symbolically the veil torn in two – halved – so believers can have a way to the Father. We walk through the veil of His flesh • Our walk into death takes place at salvation • We hold back nothing, but surrender everything • Walk into death takes place • Matt. 10:34-39 Those worthy of Him put the covenant relationship with Him above all else • Laying down one’s life is a death – to self

  6. Death to Self • Luke 14:25-27 “Hate” is used to show comparison, not an emotion, in the priority Jesus is to have • Galatians 2:20 In order to come into this new life, death has to take place • This is salvation through the eyes of Covenant. • When salvation is understood in the light of Covenant, then there is no place for easy-believism. • Our walk into death is simply coming to God with nothing held back. It is a total death to self.
