  3. Why to adjust your garden to wildlife? We, human beings, are the species that has conquered all habitats on Earth and has the ability to distinctly alter them for our purposes. However, our future depends on the health and proper functioning of these habitats and for that reason, we all one by one need to make sure that we live in harmony with other species of plants and animals.

  4. What to do? First step you can take is to transform your biodiversity “poor” garden or backyard into wonderfully and originally looking patch of land, where diverse species can live, and flourish.

  5. How to do it? The basics… Remember these basic rules, that are needed for wildlife to settle in! • Essentials – food & water • Safety – spots to hide & cover • Health – chemical free

  6. How to do it? Tips and tricks… • Diversify the plant species you have in the garden. You can create some cool geometrical designs with rocks, or hazel branches to make the garden look cool even without having perfect lawn. • Forget chemicals. You will do only good for the soil, animals, and even your own health, as chemical fertilizers or pesticides get washed off into freshwater resources, causing health problems.

  7. How to do it? Tips and tricks… • Grow diverse herbs and medicinal plants. You may have them fresh anytime, and at the same time they are perfect for pollinators. More information in recommended links. • Use the terrain unevenness for enriching the diversity and originality of your garden. E.g. You can create a rain garden in a place, where is low terrain and water tends to stay more often. This will provide precious water to wildlife.

  8. How to do it? Tips and tricks… • Provide shelter for the wildlife by planting evergreen trees. Other possibilities are bushes, little rock piles, tree branches, or even bird houses. • Experiment with different species of weeds. You might actually let them grow in rocky, infertile spots of your garden, where other plants have hard time to grow. You might be surprised how many little animals or bugs will benefit from this extra vegetation cover.

  9. How to do it? Tips and tricks… • One more principle you can implement in your garden is to adopt environmentally smart principles. Eliminate waste by creating a compost that can be reused for enriching organic layer of the soil. Use water retention measures such as mulching to decrease the need for irrigation. You will benefit from these as well, since you will not have to spend the time to water the garden that often.
