  1. Digital marketing has evolved exponentially over the past thirty years. Technology is constantly changing and updating. The marketing industry has seen some of the biggest changes with personal computers being introduced, which change how companies market themselves. In the past three decades the biggest adoption into our everyday lives was the internet, this has completely changed marketing, giving companies the opportunity to market to an international audience, helping them boost their brand visibility and achieve long term success. The first internet browser was introduced in 1994, followed by Yahoo the same year and Google three years later. Email soon became the new marketing tool, while websites were being created and search engines came into play to help users find all the products and services they were looking for. Early SEO techniques included keyword stuffing, backlinks and tagging. Marketing tactics took a shift in 2001 with more emphasis being placed on inbound marketing. This was when social media was introduced with LinkedIn being introduced in 2002, MySpace in 2003 and Facebook in 2004, followed by Twitter in 2007. This made it easier for internet marketers to share personal data online. It wasn't long after this that we saw new devices becoming a top choice for searching the internet, this was the smartphone and tablet. Personal computers have been overtaken by smart phones as the leading digital device when searching online. This has changed website designs, it has changed how we market our business and it has

  2. increased the demand for local SEO campaigns, reaching local audiences who search on their mobile device before heading out to a store to make a purchase. You can find information about anything online these days, which means that transparency became a large part of the evolution of digital marketing as clients became smarter, researching products and services online within seconds. You're able to compare products, competitors and more. You can read reviews on the company and the product. These days, seventy percent of any buyer journey is done online before they reach out to the company. Keyword stuffing quickly became obsolete, which opened up opportunities to add value to audiences, providing fine quality content that is informative, interesting and relevant. It has since become about the UX (user experience). User generated content is a common digital marketing trend these days, which provides a certain level of personalization. The focus is to create a great experience for clients, empowering the customer, this form of marketing builds a strong bond between customer and brand. Millennials are very much driven by user generated content. Agile marketing has become an essential part of any social media and digital marketing campaign. It includes theoretical and strategic results focusing on a good return on investment. Facebook and Twitter have been a focus for many business owners and in return, these platforms have provided valuable insight into what content will work and achieve results, as a result the established brands will have their own unique personality on social media. This is in terms of their voice and tone, along with transparency and speed. The speed used on social media identifies the company's response times and is an effective way to engage with your audience. While digital marketing continues to evolve and confuse company owners with the changes, the traditional offline marketing efforts are still an excellent way to reach your local audience. Banners, flyers, folders and traditional marketing products can still be an effective marketing tool in conjunction with your digital marketing campaign moving forward.
