Inwood Early College Founded in 2014, Inwood Early College (IEC) High School is an early college, career and technical education public school. Our school is located in the Inwood section of north Manhattan. Our Mission The mission of Inwood Early College is to prepare young people for collegiate, professional, personal, and social success. Immersed in seamlessly integrated high school, college, and workplace learning experiences, our students graduate as well rounded young professionals with advanced educational and career achievements in information technology and the health professions prepared to further transform themselves, their communities, and the world. Student Commitments • Our Legacy Class of students who helped to found our school in 2014 decided that there were specific commitments that they wanted to make to themselves, our faculty and staff, parents, and to future students who would follow in their footsteps. These commitments represent values, characteristics, and traits that our founding Legacy class commits to developing and demonstrating. • In addition, our Legacy Class expects to model and to be held accountable for guiding younger students in developing these values, characteristics and traits as these are a part of the legacy that they will leave to Inwood Early College: • Honesty • Fairness • Creativity • Respect • Responsibility • Professionalism • Leadership
Academic Policies At Inwood Early College, the purpose of grading is to provide meaningful feedback about the learning students are doing. Based on the feedback they receive, students work collaboratively with Inwood Early College faculty, student colleagues, and families to continually review feedback and use it to revise their work- and, thereby, improve their learning. Through this process, students improve upon their skills, habits/practices, knowledge, and understanding. The shared goals of this mindset about grading are for students to continuously demonstrate progress toward specific learning outcomes, and for grades to be a more accurate, meaningful, and impactful reflection of what students have learned. To achieve these goals, Inwood Early College employs a mastery outcomes-based learning and grading system. In an mastery grading system, students are evaluated in relation to specific course aligned outcomes rather than specific assignments or assignment categories. For example, instead of receiving only a score on an exam (such as 80), students receive feedback in relation to the specific outcomes covered on that exam. As teachers enter scores for each outcome on each assignment, Skedula assigns a point value for each score, and uses a flexible averaging algorithm to generate a final grade on a 55 – 100 scale. The final grade entered into PADS (see more below) will appear on students’ transcripts.
Other School Policies Attendance Start Time: During remote/blended learning, school begins promptly at 9:15am. Our school is a community feeding site, so families can come to pick up meals between 9:00 am – Noon and 3:00-5:00 pm. During the Regular School Year, school begins at 8:45 am with AM Huddle where all students and staff meet in the cafeteria for a welcome and announcements. If a student would like to eat breakfast at school, the student should arrive between 8:00 - 8:30am. 2. Daily Absences: A phone call from the parent/guardian is required when a student will be absent from school. A school staff member will make phone calls to all absent students whose parents/guardians did not notify the school of the students’ absence. 3. Lateness: Students who arrive late (after 9:15am) will be required to sign in with school staff prior to going to class. Parents/Guardians of students who are excessively late will be notified and may be required to attend a meeting at the school to discuss how to support the student in arriving to school on time.

Student Activities • In addition to a rigorous academic program, our students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. At Inwood Early College, activities our driven by our students' interests. Promotion, Graduation, and College and Career Readiness: At-a-Glance
Our Partners As part of a collective effort to empower our students with the skills and experiences they need to be college and career ready, we partner with a number of organizations that provide a diverse range of opportunities for our students and faculty. Through our partnerships, our students have the opportunity to collaborate with industry mentors, secure internships and externships, earn CTE certifications, college credit, and an associates degree. Inwood Early College is an early college and career technical education school partnered with Microsoft, NY Presbyterian and Bronx Community College. Through the school’s project-based instructional program, students earn a CTE high school diploma with technical certifications, and Applied Associate of Science (AAS) degree – at no cost- and paid work-based experience that prepares them for careers in health and information technologies.
New York Presbyterian On January 1, 1998, The New York Hospital publicly announced its full-asset merger with The Presbyterian Hospital to create NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. In this unprecedented event, two world-class academic healthcare institutions combined to create the largest and most comprehensive hospital in New York, with over 13,000 employees and 2,200 patient beds. The result is an improved quality of healthcare provided to patients, enhanced availability of clinical services to an expanded population and lowered costs of services through improved efficiencies. Before the merger, The New York Hospital and The Presbyterian Hospital shared illustrious histories as providers of exemplary healthcare services to residents of the New York metropolitan area, having made innumerable contributions to the field of medicine. As a merged institution, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital serves as a preeminent healthcare resource for the New York region and beyond. With its two affiliated medical schools, NewYork-Presbyterian combines the best clinical and administrative practices of all its departments and is recognized as one of the foremost integrated academic health centers in the world. Bronx Community College • The Bronx Community College of the City University of New York (BCC) is a public community college in the Bronx, New York City. It is part of the City University of New York system. The college was established in 1957 through the efforts of civic-minded groups who felt that there was a growing need for more higher education facilities in the Bronx. Classes began at Hunter College, and later at the former site of the Bronx High School of Science. • In 1973, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York acquired the University Heights campus from New York University (NYU), which had sold the campus under threat of imminent bankruptcy. Beginning in the fall of that year, the BCC moved its operations to the 55 acres (22 ha) site overlooking the Harlem River. • In 2012, the North Hall and Library opened. Important Systems Parents should stay involved in their children’s education from preschool through high School. Parental involvement can make a positive difference at all age levels. Parental Involvements tends to be the greatest with young children and tends to taper off as Children get older. Studies have shown, however, that the involvement of parents of middle and high school students is equally important. In high school, for example, a parent's encouragement can influence whether a child stays in school or drops out. Similarly, a child may consider going to college more seriously when parents show interest in the child's academic achievements and talk with the child about the benefits of a college education
NYC Schools Account Did you know that you can track your child’s education on any computer, phone, or tablet? You can also sign the COVID consent form, right in the NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). You can sign up for an account by entering a few basic details. This will allow you to begin receiving notifications from the DOE. It only takes five minutes, and it is the first step in getting a full account. NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) is a web-based application that lets you to see your child’s academic and biographic information on any computer, phone, or tablet. The application is translated into nine languages other than English. In the account, you can see a child’s: • Assessments (Test Scores) • Attendance • Enrollment History • Grades • Graduation Tracker • Guardians • Health Information (Fitness gram) • Individualized Education Program (IEP) Information • Promotion Tracker • Reading Level • Schedule • Student Documents (Report Card, Transcript, Summer School Letter) • Transportation
Operoo The Operoo system makes it very easy for you to respond to field trip, camp and other consent forms using your mobile phone, tablet or PC. No more paperwork! No more lost forms or notes covered in a squashed banana in bags, no more concerns about children missing information when they are absent. It will greatly reduce the burden on you to provide information that is repetitive. For example, it will allow you to keep your or your child’s emergency contact and medical information up to date; so you don’t need to repeat this information again whilst your child is at Inwood Early College It also puts you in control of this data so you’ll always know what emergency contacts and medical information is shared with Inwood Early College. We do need a valid email address from you in order to use the Operoo system. Please share those details with us if you have not already. You do not need to do anything else until you receive an email invitation from us asking you to sign up for your Operoo account. After that, you will receive notifications whenever there is an electronic form to complete for Inwood Early College.
PupilPath The student’s online portal popularly known as PupilPath is a very significant source of information for you and your child and an extremely simple and practical way to track your child’s progress and his attitude towards the studies. We hope and we believe that by posting these details daily we can work together to keep our children up to date in each class and each and every subject they study. Together we will ensure that our students make the most of their education. To sign up for the school portal, visit the official website and tap on “Parent Registration” if you are a parent or “Student Registration” if you are a student. Pupilpath is an online portal that enables parents and students to track the progress of their child in all the subjects. Details regarding student progress include grades, assignments, certificates, anecdotal requirements, completion requirements, and relevant tests. It can also be effectively used to contact all Life Academy employees directly. Invitations to the student trails are available in the main office.
Remind Remind is a communication platform that helps educators reach students and parents where they are. Fast: Messages are sent in real time to an entire class, a small group, or just a single person. You can also schedule announcements ahead of time and attach photos and other files. Remind's guidelines, practices, and features have been designed to protect the safety and security of users and their personal information. Remind has been certified by iKeepSafe for privacy practices related to COPPA, FERPA, and California Student Privacy.

Google Classroom Google Classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students.
Technology Support Inwood Early College’s Technology Support 1) Inwood Early College has put together a Tech Support team to provide technology support to all students, staff and families. The members of the IEC Tech Support team are Ms. Espiritu, Mr. Swotinsky, Mr. Vasquez, Mr. Villegas, and Mr. Young 2) If you experience any technical issues, please send an email to techsupport@InwoodEarlyCollege.org describing the issue. The IEC Tech Support team will work to resolve the issue and provide support as soon as possible. Email to techsupport@inwoodearlycollege.org will only function properly within the Office 365 Inwood Early College email environment. 3) If you do not have access to your Office 365 account, please send a text message to Dr. Tait at (917) 539-8518. Dr. Tait will forward your message to the IEC Tech Support team who will work to get you access as soon as possible. 4) Students should reach out to their teachers or tech support if they do not have access to Office 365 Please send an email to techsupport@InwoodEarlyCollege.org. Be sure to include your name and contact information (e.g. phone, alternate email, etc.) so that the IEC Tech support team may respond to you with their updated account information. The IEC Tech Support team will work to get the students’ access as soon as possible. 5) Please remember to be sure that your IEC email and your personal email are activated and that you have access to Zoom for our video/teleconferencing. 6) If you need support using any of our various instruction platforms or tools (e.g. Teams, Skedula, etc.), please feel free to reach out to any members of the IEC Tech Support Team directly. 7) If you are struggling to connect a DOE computer to your internet at home, try this: How to Connect to Wifi at Home How to Use a HotSpot 8) If students still need laptops or hotspots, please call 718-935-5100 and press option 5. The City of NY and Central DOE will provide devices for any student who was unable to pick one from IEC last week
