  1. “GAMECHANGER” A POKER PHENOMENON IN MAKING POKER MTTS GET BIGGER!!!

  2. One of India’s biggest poker website Pokerbaazi concluded its second Multi-table tournament aka MTT Gamechanger with an impressive 23980000/- given out as prize money. ShagunSoni “Sogani22” hailing from the pink city shipped the tournament to bag 40,78,998 beating a field of more than 4000 players from all over the country. Last GamechangerPrasanthShekar “Ivyleague” also finished at an impressive 12th place this time.

  3. The leader board looked like a surreal dream to anybody who plays the game and to those who never heard of poker an unbelievable picture. Though money is important Gamechanger has been seen as more than that by the poker community. High stakes tournament in the current online poker landscape is a normal occurrence with guaranteed prize money of 5 to 10 lakh offered on a daily basis at most major websites. Take Pokerbaazi’s case, they host daily high stakes tournaments with a combined prize value of more than 95 lakh in a week.

  4. Here’s the list if you want to tally yourself: • In order to understand why Gamechanger has become such a craze despite plenty of high stakes tournaments • available, a deeper understanding of poker tournaments • and the poker community is required.

  5. Value Every tournament has a perceived value for money which is crucial for long term profitability. Poker pros sometimes won’t play a tournament even if it has a soft field unless there is value. Value for simpler understanding can be taken as: “Total prize offered/entry for the tournament” In the above table, you may find that BSS carries a gtd prize of 25 lakh. So which one has a better value, is playing BSS 8 times i.e for 20,000,000 the same as playing Gamechanger? Let’s find out.

  6. Using the formula value for Gamechanger value comes out to 3636 whilst value for BSS comes out to 454 so clearly gamechanger is a winner. But if we want to play BSS 8 times then the value of BSS will remain the same at 454 hence Gamechanger still will be a better option. The figure 3636 that we mentioned is a benchmark in itself. WSOP 2019 this year had a tournament Event #11 with 5000 $ entry and 1,860,000 in prize pool taking its value at 338. For fun, try figuring out value of WSOP main event on your own, (hint: it is almost double that of Gamechanger).  Though the comparison is unfair any Indian poker site even attempting to reach such high standards deserves applause.

Entry Barriers: The entry fees were kept at a pocket-friendly 5500 Rs. but given the massive pool of 4000+ players and flights spread over four days a conservative player had to keep 5 bullets at least to have a practical shot at the main event. Pokerbaazi made it possible for serious players by offering various freeroll contests like dekhmeribaazifreeroll and daily freerolls which gave players the chance to enter for free or save cost on a few bullets. They also ran satellites starting as low as 275/- well in advance of the tournament giving ample opportunities to the players. Such contests are key to poker ecosystem and overall health of tournaments.

Social Presence: The online poker community in India is very active in social media and baazi banged its marketing plan by posting contests, news, and blogs at most popular facebook groups, blogs, and youtube. The event was tweeted live by www.whisperingshouts.com through its twitter channel @whispshouts and was liked by international poker pros like alectorelli, evan Jarvis from gripsed poker, jonathan little, Vanessa kade and many more. Many Indian poker information magazines and portals covered the event as well.

  9. Field: The massive guaranteed prize of 2 crore attracts a lot of recreational players to try their shot. Normal high stakes tournaments usually carry seasoned players, big tournaments like this attract all sorts of players from amateurs to fish to pros. Excelling in these key areas Gamechanger has become a league in itself. We hope that the next GC brings even more rewards, challenges and fun experience to the Indian poker scene.
