Understanding the Different Types of Learners Active Learners: Learn by discussing or applying information. “Let’s try and see if this works” attitude Reflective Learner: Learn by thinking about the information. “Let’s think it through first” is the attitude Sensing Learner: Learn by memorizing and are good at facts. “How does this work in the real world” is the attitude Intuitive Learners: Learn by understanding the correlation between what is taught and facts. “How does this apply to real world” is the attitude Visual Learners: Learn through visual representation of information. Verbal Learners: Learn from written or spoken explanation Sequential Learners: Learn in linear steps by logically connecting every step Global Learners: Learn different things randomly and then finally understand by getting the big picture.   3. Ensuring that Students Have Understood the Topic Discussion among Students: Students can help each other by explaining the topic to each other. This is especially beneficial for active learners Reviewing the topic: The teacher can stop midway to review if students have understood the topic. This is helpful for reflective learners Preparing pictures and flowcharts: A visual representation of the subject helps students to understand better. This method is helpful for visual learners. Games: Through games students can be taught to experience and understand a subject from the inside.

  4. Shifting the Focus from Knowing to Understanding Why Should I Learn: Learning happens only when students are convinced that the subject can be applied in the real world. Puzzles and games can be used to explain the context of a subject. Project based learning: There need not be a single answer or a single approach to a subject. Teachers can guide students to take drastically different approaches towards a topic and find their own answers. Doing work that matters: Students writing a book about the local ecosystem, designing the classroom setup, develop ideas about local issues, are all examples of getting students to do ‘work that matters’.

Social Skills: Students relate better to flawed characters and help them to get over their weaknesses in order to win the game. Children are taught about effects of smoking, alcoholism and withstanding peer pressure. Technology Enriched Leaning: With the use of computers and mobile gadgets, teachers get to monitor individual progress and determine which student needs the most attention.
