  3. What is an Allied Health professional? They are healthcare practitioners with formal education and clinical training who are credentialed through certification, registration or licensure. They deliver high quality patient care services excluding nursing.

Examples of Allied Health Professionals: Respiratory Therapists Occupational Therapists Physical Therapists Speech Language Pathologists Pharmacists/ Pharmacy Techs Medical Laboratory Technicians/ Medical Technologists Radiation Therapists Phlebotomists Dieticians Imaging professionals (radiology, sonography) Social Workers EMT- Paramedics

  6. What strategies do we use to recruit Allied Health professionals? Job Postings in newspapers, magazines and on websites Attend Job Fairs… and have our own job fairs too Open Interview Days Visit community colleges and universities Classroom visits Establish relationships with local schools and educators Cold calling Mailings from NC board licensure lists Search our application database for viable applications Offer incentive bonuses/ tuition assistance/ loan forgiveness Flexibility in scheduling Employee referral bonuses Establish relationships with directors/managers (specific needs and shadowing) Quarterly meetings with the NC Association of Healthcare Recruiters- great source of networking and receiving great recruiting ideas

We also try to reach the younger generations… Career Investigators’ Academy at CMC- Union (every July) One week shadowing experience for rising 8th graders Receive a lot of participation from our departments About 20 students are selected from local schools Interactive speakers Final project and luncheon with family and friends Attend career fairs at area high schools and middle schools Conduct tours of our facility *In process of creating our own career fair for area high school students One day of learning about the different areas of the healthcare industry, their functions, healthcare careers and being able to communicate with managers/directors.

Flexible scheduling Continuing education reimbursement and tuition reimbursement Competitive Salaries Monthly Retention Committee meetings Discuss ideas for hospital- wide activities PERCS and Extras program for employees Contact local businesses and vendors in area to provide special discounts to our employees- such as automotive services, real estate, restaurant, recreational, retail and financial services Leadership Development for Current Leaders Foundations Class for Upcoming Leaders

  9. Allied Health and its Future The Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected that the growth rate of new jobs in the healthcare professions will be 28.8% until 2010. This is twice the rate of non-healthcare professions. Healthcare will generate 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016, more than any other industry. www.bls.gov
